Under declared weight!

Just looking for some advice. My DD (14) has been selling some of her old toys on eBay. She has cleaned, photographed and listed them but each time she has chosen the recommended weight which auto calculates the postage. I have started packing the items for sale and quite a few are heavier than the postage we’ve paid for. I have searched evri and ebay but can’t find an answer telling me what to do! The first couple I just paid for a new shipping label but that means the tracking number and eBay protection the buyer has paid for are not valid. What will happen if I send with under declared weight? Will I have to pay the extra at the post office or be billed for the extra weight? Happy to pay the extra but don’t want parcel to be held up for the buyer. Thanks

I received a package from an ebay seller last month which was under declared.

It was delayed two weeks and I had to pay a further £3 online before I got it. I was very unhappy and left poor feedback.

Always weigh the item yourself and buy the appropriate postage. If you send underpaid then the receiver will have pay a 'fine' plus the under payment to get the item. They'll look to you to repay them and probably leave negative feedback

Yes you need to get this right otherwise you could end up with a lot of disgruntled buyers and no profit !

I believe you can void the postage labels that you’ve purchased through the system. It’s not the easiest procedure but basically click on your sold order / manage order and void is somewhere in that section the three little dots might also be involved !

the money will be returned to you but it won’t be instant ( obviously in eBay’s benefit )

you will at some stage be able to add the postage tracking details you purchased which will be helpful as you won’t get paid until there’s proof it’s been delivered or so many weeks have elapsed

Before listing check the size and weight check what the postage would be to send. Add on a little for packing materials. Add that price to the listing. If you send underpaid postage it may take longer and the buyer will have to pay the extra plus a fee and collect item from post office. You will have to refund them the extra money they had to pay as they will be out of pocket.

Thanks all. It was an honest mistake on my daughter’s part but I obviously don’t want to send with an underweight label and have the buyer inconvenienced or fined. I was hoping that I would be able to pay for the extra weight at the post office or that evri would bill be for the additional postage but it doesn’t look like that is possible. I can’t void the labels so I have just purchased new labels for the correct postage and will send the new tracking numbers to the buyers.
Thanks for all the advice.

You can void the wrong labels you have printed if not sent if you have bought through Ebay. If you have the app go to sold items click the one you want, lower down where it says leave feedback there is a drop down menu with manage postage next to print label there is another drop down menu for void lable. You can still void if you are on a desktop or ipad

I find Vinted much better as a seller, including for how it handles postage
