I bought a bed throw for £75 in the sales. Normally it is £150.
I don't think I want to keep it as I'd need to repaint my room.

It has now gone out of stock and is discontinued and removed from a fairly popular website (I checked with customer services.) I can either return for £75 OR I can put it on eBay or vinted etc. Am I being horrible trying to sell it for £110 and keep some extra profit to myself as eBay is actually a business.

Interested in others' views.
PS There is one up already for £150 same size etc.

You can put it on for how ever much you like! If people think it’s worth it they’ll buy it, and if they don’t they won’t. I wouldn’t give it a second thought.

I buy sale items and flip them all the time on ebay. Even sometimes buy from Amazon and ship to the customer direct. Make around 1k a month doing that.

mrsm43s · 16/01/2025 16:47

You might manage to get more than you paid for it. But since the actual retailer had to reduce it right down to half price to shift it, I'd suggest there's a reasonable chance that it won't sell. Would you be that bothered if you couldn't sell it and had passed the returns deadline, leaving you £75 out of pocket?

It's a gamble isn't it - put it on Vinted, best case scenario you make £35 worst case you lose £75. Return it to the retailer you're guaranteed your money back, but don't make a profit. It's up to you whether you want to take the risk and can be bothered with the hassle.

Why would they not just buy it from Amazon themself?

Because a lot of people don't bother to research things. I've seen things on Ebay (new) that are priced considerably more than you can buy from John Lewis with a 2 year guarantee!

I’d check completed listings on eBay for what they have actually sold for , just because one is on for a higher price doesn’t mean it will sell

Mum5net · 17/01/2025 11:43

@mrsm43s You make a very good point. I was late to the party so it may have been on sale at the 50% price for a couple of weeks.
i have 100 days to return so the risk is minimal. I’m going to go with a 90% price and a Make Offer option.

Just be aware that there are lots of scammers on eBay and so another risk is that you sell it and send it and they then claim its damaged etc and ask for a return/refund and then you are ether past the return date or they return a damaged item to you

Floralnomad · 17/01/2025 12:01

If you don’t want it you have two choices ,get what you paid back or try to profit from it by selling it yourself . Personally I’d just send it back because I couldn’t be bothered with trying to offload it , if you want to sell it , sell it , nobody cares .

People will pay for whatever they think it's worth.

Someone might snap it up at the asking price, but equally you may have no interest for a long time at that price.
