Ebay and HMRC Side hussle tax and disability (ESA/PIP)

Ive recently started using eBay and cannot find absolute answers to this.

Apparently I am allowed to sell upto £1000 pounds including PNP and before fees before I need to declare anything to HMRC?

Ive recently started clearing out small items and my old pc components that Ive accumulated over the past and worried that this may effect other things. I am currently on a low income and receipt of PIP and ESA and do not wish to for this to be seen as trading as I am simply having a clear out.

I am concerned about about this as I know I have sold over 30 items however they are very low in value and total less than £1000

Any help or advise on this matter is appreciated.

If you are clearing out things that you already own then it shouldn't be an issue. If you are buying things with the purpose of selling then you would need to declare it to HMRC and DWP.

If they total less than £1000 you have nothing to worry about. Even if it was more than £1000 you could argue you are not carrying out a trade as you are selling surplus personal possessions. The people they are really after are people who but things with the intention of selling for a profit.

That's good thank you.

I was worried about this due to my benefits , I can confirm that iam way under 1000 after checking the seller dashboard. However I have sold over 30, so I know my data will be shared.

I really dislike the idea of providing my nino number to them so if they do ask I will switch to another platform.
