Buyer wants to use courier for collection only furniture item

I've just told them that I wasn't sure if I would be comfortable selling a high value item to them with their own courier arrangements.

Have I just lost a potential buyer? Feeling a bit silly now but was worried it could have been a scam as they were saying about organising a courier, and paying for the item via PayPal 🤔

Just out of curiosity, would the buyer pay by PayPal and then I'd get a QR code sent for them to scan to confirm collection by the courier? And should I take photos of the furniture if I did sell this way in order for me to avoid them claiming a refund by saying it was damaged etc? I've not sold anything like furniture using ebay before.

We’ve used a courier, but we paid by bank transfer I think - whatever it was that the buyer specified. We both spent a bit of time working out how to do it so that there wasn’t a risk to them!

Gosh. I asked a seller if I could send a courier to pick up a large item. I'm not a scammer!

When I picked it up myself ( it was cheaper to hire a van in the end) I had a code to give the seller which confirmed I had picked it up and the seller then got their money.

This is saying it's the pay cash on collection that is a scam because there is then no evidence of payment when the item goes missing.

Loads of people use Shiply to pick up things they have bought on ebay, it's completely standard and all links in with ebay so shouldn't be a problem.

If you read the thread you’ll see that the replies call this out as nonsense. If someone gives you cash, they cannot then get a refund from either their card or your bank.

If the item goes missing then the buyer can take it up with whoever collected it, the seller has the cash so won’t care.

Not everyone who wants to use a courier is trying to scam you, but it is a common scam when you list something valuable as a collection only item.

It's not a scam if you make sure the buyer or courier gives you the QR code to scan which acts as your receipt that you've released the item to the buyer or their courier.

Obviously if they don't want to give you a QR code, then rightly walk away from transaction or insist on cash so there's no come back on you

Never accept PayPal for a collection item.
