non-paying bidder - what do I do?

I ebayed this buggy - auction ended Sunday before last. Winning bidder is from Eire. I had had a couple of questions from people in Eire asking about P&P (as I had put UK charge on the listing) and I couldn't find a courier to send it over so answered the questions and added to listing saying please don't bid if not in UK as I can't find out charge. I didn't get any questions from the winner in advance of auction closing. They have never bought anything on ebay before (or have no feedback at least). I haven't sent an invoice as the only courier I could find would charge £100 to send so I assume they wouldn't want to go ahead with it (and have just wasted my time, grrrr) but have emailed three times asking them to get in touch with me to discuss p&P or whether they were planning to have it sent to UK, or pick up or whatever...no response in 9 days now. What should I do? I've never had a non-payer before...tbh I would be happy to let it go and cancel the transaction and list again (although am a bit at waste of time but I guess was just a mistake) as long as I don't incur any fees, but am not sure how I can do this...do I need to send invoice (incl £100 P&P!) or what...
ebay veterans please advise, pretty pretty please...I need to get this buggy out of my hallway before I go insane!

report as a non-paying bidder and re-list. If you stipulated no overseas bidders then they should not have bid

jeangenie · 25/03/2008 13:50

you see I didn't stipulate - I put UK fees on and said was UK fees but when I checked the listing it had a default ships worldwide setting on...but i did say in my answer to the queries that people shouldn't bid as I couldn't find out P&P...

will ebay refund fees if I just relist?

oh I see, file a report and wait until you hear from ebay before you re-list.
There is a time limit that the other party has to adhere to, not sure whether you wil get fees refunded but hold fire on the re-lisitng

Sounds like they bid on it without checking where you are/postage costs etc.
I would just email the person to ask nicely 'would you like to mutually withdraw from the transaction' and if they say yes then you mutually withdraw and get your listing fees reimbursed. Or you migth be able to do a 'request mutual withdrawal' via ebay.
I did this once when someone didn't realise how heavy an item would be to send abroad and wanted to back out.
No impact on feedback either doing it this way and no unpaid bidder strike on the buyer - if they are new to ebay they may have made it as a genuine mistake.

ooh, had just filed unpaid item dispute before I saw your message FJ - that sounds like the thing to do though...will see if I can do that now

I just checked the listing, the winning bidder (bidder no 6) has cancelled the bid so thats why she is not responding.
Offer it as a 2nd chance offer to the next one down. If they don't want it then go one down again. It looks a fab buggy so I'm sure one of them will be really pleased to get a 2nd chance at buying it.

You don't have to pay listing fee again using 2nd chance offer but you will pay the final sale price fee.

Also, you can put how many days you want before the offer is closed, so if the other bidders are nearby and you put 2 days for the 2nd chance offer it might be gone by tomorrow evening!

let us know!

jeangenie · 25/03/2008 14:14

how can you see they cancelled the bid? I can't see that..winning bidder was unkel1977...am I missing something?

there was another bidder in there who bid on the wrong buggy by mistake and I cancelled her bids after she contacted me

let me see... how do I describe this?
In the top part of the listing next to the smaller photo you can click where it says 8 bidders (see I've done it for you).
It tells you all the bids and at the bottom says 'cancelled bid history'
Now, it says bidder 6 cancelled and the bid amount canclled was for higher than the item went for, so it must have been the highest bidder who cancelled iyswim.

And it has been cancelled about half an hour after the item closed.

Just offer it as 2nd chance offer to the next one down, save all the hassle of non paying bidder strike and worry about your feedback etc.

thanks FJ

that cancelled bid was the one I did on behalf of the person who emailed me to say she had bid in error, it was done before the bidding ended (so not sure why it would say was afterwards?). The Unkel1979 bidder was the one ebay announced to me as the winner. I just don't know if I should do second chance offers as she certainly didn't cancel her bid but hasn't gotten back to me 9 days later so maybe I can...I have emailed her to offer the mutual withdrawal option now so will give her another day or two

(ebay was always a bit too smooth for me before!)

From what I can see, 'bidder 3' won the auction.

If you look at the timings of the bids bidder 3 bid five days before the auction ended.

I would report it to ebay and give a second chance offer to the bidder below.

jeangenie · 26/03/2008 07:56

thanks - my question is really about whether I can offer a second chance offer while the other transaction hasn't been resolved .i.e I haven't yet heard from them...what do you all think?
