Im quite shocked. I often buy brand new clothes for dd. I bought Elle coat for 20+pounds for the next winter. Went thru check out, it only comes address to send cheque or paypal. I read the describtion it says overseas bidders paypal only, which i assumed she accepts paypal. Sent her email asking for paypal invoice.
She now wants me pay extra 3pounds to cover lisitng, final value, and paypal fees. This never happened to me before. I sold pushchairs and buggys, even classic car and accepted paypal. I never asked anyone to cover all my fees.
What would you do?

she is not allowed to ask for extra anymore

misdee · 25/03/2008 11:09

she is not allowed and would report her to ebay.

solo · 25/03/2008 11:12

Surely she can't do that unless she specifies that in her original ad? I'd report it to E bay.
Most people put an extra bit on the p&p to off set some of the pay pal costs, not demand extra for the costs they know they'll have anyway.
Out of order! what's her username, so I can avoid her?

lackaDAISYcal · 25/03/2008 11:18

ditto she should have been upfront about the fees in the listing if she wanted her charges covered. I've seen listings which state this.

Report it to ebay as she can't add fees on after the sale has gone through.

sixlostmonkeys · 25/03/2008 15:36

she can't do this - even if she stated it in the listing. If she states it in the listing the listing will get pulled and she would get a slap.

I'd inform her that she simply can't do it and just go ahead and pay the correct amount through paypal - you don't need an invoice

I have been selling on ebay for a long time and it used to be the norm to state in adds 50p extra for paypal etc, but ebay cracked down on it and all sellers were sent emails saying this was actually illegal.

So don't pay the extra, report her to ebay,

OracleInaCoracle · 26/03/2008 09:46

nope, she cant do that. report her.

LazyLinePainterJane · 26/03/2008 09:49

She is not supposed to do it, technically it is against the rules, but thousands of people put it on their listings and ebay don't give a toss. They own Paypal so it all means more money for them! Can you pay by another means?

OracleInaCoracle · 26/03/2008 09:53

but why should she? the price stated was the price she agreed to pay. she and the buyer have entered into a contract and the seller is obliged to sell for the agreed price. when you buy a house the vendor cant say once you have the keys "oh if you want to use this mortgage company then it'll be an extra £3,000 please"

NatalieJane · 26/03/2008 09:57

To be fair though, the seller has stated PayPal for over seas buyers only. If she'd have listed PayPal for UK bidders as well, then it would be very out of order to ask for more money, but since she hasn't even listed PayPal as a payment method, and you have just assumed she will accept it, then I think you have taken the biscuit as well.

dingdong05 · 26/03/2008 14:11

Most buyers don't realise how expensive the paypal fees are- I know I didn't before selling anyway.
If you are selling you have to take all fees into account and set the price accordingly. You aren't allowed to charge extra, but if you do use paypal then of course you have to take their fees into account.
Did she state paypal or cheque, and paypal only for overseas buyers? That's quite normal.
Send her a cheque and after she's left you good feedback report her to ebay
