Buyer wants to return camera 2 weeks later

I sold a digital SLR camera on eBay just over 2 weeks ago.

The buyer has now messaged me to say that they would like to return it as it does not record video - I never said it did!

My listings are "returns not accepted" but I know that can mean very little with eBay.

I'm going to suggest to them they re-list it themselves as there was a lot of interest.

Please tell me I'm not going to have to refund? Or get negative feedback?

They prob used it for what they wanted it for . If it's expensive you can get the shutter count , I don't suppose you have that before you sent it , then you could ask to see what the shutter count is now to see if they've used it and now want to return it.

Thanks for your reply - I don't have the software to do a shutter count so no way of telling.

They waited till after I'd left positive feedback which makes me suspicious.

In their previous messages they'd said they were keen to get using it, and they've waited 2 weeks to message.

And if it was that important they should have checked before purchase.

Just so frustrating.

Personally, I would message them and refer them back to the original listing, stating that it didn’t say it had video capacities. Also that as you’re a private seller, you don’t accept non fault returns.

They may open a case with eBay, if so you can fight it. If they do, advice would be to call eBay and speak to a human, who can exercise common sense and close the case manually, in your favour.

or you can just accept the return, it’s your choice.

If there's no mention on your listing of the camera having a record function then it's tough luck on the buyer.

They should have messaged you to check that it records if that's what they wanted it to do, not just assumed that it would. Also they could have looked up the model number, reviews and downloaded the instruction manual on Google before they made their purchase.

It's the buyer's own fault for not doing their research before buying. If they don't want it they can create a listing and sell it on for what they paid.

Thanks - I had messaged back last night to say that I didn't accept returns (as per listing) & thought it was best all round if they relisted it themselves.

Just noticed that they had left positive feedback before messaging, so at least there's not the threat of negative.

Just hoping they don't open a case.....
