Blardy royal mail

I have recently sold a lot of bits on ebay and am having trouble with people saying not received it.
I know I could have sent it recorded but be honest, wouldn't you expect an item posted first class on Monday to be there by Friday? It's so frustrating when others that were posted yesterday are there today and others just seem to disappear?????????
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

I think a lot of people who buy on ebay allege that they have not received the items.

TheBlonde · 14/03/2008 18:44

did you get proof of posting (it's usually just the receipt these days)

sixlostmonkeys · 14/03/2008 19:03

I find if I reply to the buyers who claim they haven't received, along the lines of - so sorry your item hasn't arrived yet. I can confirm I posted it on 1/1/1999 to mrs Bloggs, 10 downing street, london. Could you please contact your local sorting office to see if they holding it for you (the postie doesn't always leave a card) and also ask your neighbours in case it has been delivered to the wrong house by mistake. please get back to me with any news. Regards Mrs Seller.

usually this makes the item arrive (maybe they don't anticipate a reply/efficiency or sumfink ...

hmmm Think you're right SLM
I don't get proof of purchase becuase I am sending lots of low value bits at once, and it would just take forever to get 50 proofs of purchase at once.
So I accept that I might have to send a replacement now and then, but this is getting beyond a joke, several people each week.
Know what you mean bluefox, i find lots of people complain about the stuff they win, but then when you offer a refund if they return it, then they say they have already used it etc... seems like everyone wants something for free now!

did you go to the post office to buy the postage?

my PO receipts say on the bottom - retain as this is your proof of posting

If you have them then you can still claim from the PO

sixlostmonkeys · 14/03/2008 19:51

maybe of some interest - but i have had a sharp increase in the number of claims of non receipt of item recently - all of them 'turned up ' in the end

ca7439 · 14/03/2008 20:01

have got all the reciepts blonde, will make sure i hang on to them
Just blardy annoying that's all.

Re:- proofs of posting. I know that this is proof that the item has been posted but the recipient can still deny receipt. I think Royal Mail are getting a raw deal with ebay - they must be paying out loads of fraudulent claims. Most ebayers I know will only send recorded delivery now.

TheBlonde · 14/03/2008 20:05

yes you are right the recipient can still deny receipt and will get a refund via paypal but at least ca7439 won't be out of pocket ultimately

ca7439 · 14/03/2008 20:22

really annoys me becuase ebay is helping to keep royal mail in business, in my opinion becuase so much other stuff is going by courier now....
I think you just have to accept that some people will always try it on even the ones who you do send recorded and you know they got it?

I have had three items bought on ebay that have not arrived and have never had any compensation.

After 4 months of non-replies to messages to the first seller, I left neutral feedback explaning that the item had apparently been lost in the post. She responded by leaving me my first negative feedback despite the fact that I had paid immediately and she was unable to provide any evidence of posting (apparently lost the receipt) and wouldn't even reply to emails. After that experience, I didn't feel I could do anything about the other non-arrivals.

Now I will only buy stuff that is sent via recorded delivery.

TheBlonde · 14/03/2008 22:12

did you pay by paypal? if so then you can claim the money back from them (within a certain timeframe)

chocolatedot · 15/03/2008 07:54

Yes I did but unfortunately int he first instance she spun me out for so long with stories about how she was waiting to hear back from the Post Office that the 60 days elapsed and I had no comeback.

Personally, I really do think there is a fairly major problem with Royal Mail stuff going missing but of course there will always be people who take the mick.

squilly · 15/03/2008 16:46

I've sent 2000+ items on Ebay this year and I've had 2 'go missing'. 1 got returned to me after sitting in the sorting office for a couple of weeks with no one bothering to collect it and the other miraculously turned up just as I was putting a claim through.

I have to say that Royal Mail are generally pretty darned good...and Ebay buyers who shout thief are not as frequent as you might think either.

Or maybe I'm just extra lucky??!!??!!

bundles99 · 15/03/2008 19:20

Hi Ca,
I agree with squilly, I have sent over 1000 items & not really had any probs. The only real problem was an item I bought from Greece that didn't arrive. I caused merry hell via ebay & Paypal as the seller kept saying he had sent it, only to find 6 weeks later that the item was returned to Greece marked uncollected - my postie hadn't left me a card I returned the Paypal refund & made loads of phonecalls to Paypal as they had suspended the sellers account & everything. It all got sorted in the end

bundles99 · 15/03/2008 19:22

Sorry, forgot to say I always fill out a cert of posting & state this on my listing in CAPITALS !!
