Does a low starting price put you off as a buyer?

I need to sell a few bits before we move, poss including a double buggy which should sell for around £200 having looked at completed auctions.
I was thinking of starting the auctions very low to save on listing fees, so starting at say 4.99 max and setting a reserve for anything which I wouldn't be happy to sell for that price.
Does this put you off as a buyer?
What would/do you do?
Thanks

There is a very successful bookseller who starts all his books at 1p. They all find their value.

By starting low you will attract many bids - therefor if yours has quite a few bids and there is another one with a higher start price that has no bids, yours will look more attractive to other potential buyers.
I have seen many many times a low-start-item end up going for twice the amount as another identical item with a BIN. people get caught up with the bidding, people want what other people want, people get stuck in a trance believing they still getting a bargain (due to the low start price)

Thanks PH, am doing some more research now!
COmpleted prices do look good so far.
Yes will do a good, honest description and lots of detailed pics...

I start everything off at 99p. My dad goes to a lot of auctions and says if you have a low starting price you attract much more attention. More attention = more people bidding = higher sale price.
I also keep p&p low and always end up with more overall than other sellers with the same thing who either have a higher starting price or higher p&p.
I bet there will be a stampede of people if you put a phil and teds on for 99p start!!

OK all, am convinced, some great advice on here, much appreciated.
Will put it on at 99p, hope for the best and let it find its own price...

Pannacotta let me know if you eBay that maternity swimsuit you offered me a while ago. I am bursting out of my non-maternity one now and DD1 has decided she wants to go swimming every week .

btw - I nearly always start items at 99p. Bids attract bids I say.
