One of my listings ended yesterday. The winning bidder has just contacted me to say she doesn't have Paypal, can she send cash. I have said no, I only accept Paypal, which it clearly states on all my listings.
What would you do?

Can you not accept a postal order? As long as it is an open postal order it is easy to cash at the post office.

SparklyGothKat · 04/03/2008 20:48

i would accept a cheque or p.o but if she can't do this i would do a 'second chance offer' for the 2nd highest buyer

Piffle · 04/03/2008 20:50

accept the cash! No fees!

Yes it's annoying. ggrrr. I've never accepted a postal order. how do they work when you get sent one?

You can set up your auctions so they can only bid if they have paypal, I do this. Its in the listing form, but maybe not the short cut one IIRC.

A postal order can be cashed at the post office if its not crossed and paid into the bank if it is. So depending on your preference ask her to do it that way. I would accept concealed cash sent special delivery.

itsahardknocklife · 04/03/2008 20:54

Suwoo, thanks for the info - I shall look into that.

Aimsmum, thanks too. I'll see what the buyer says and will maybe take a Postal order. It's annoying though because I wanted the funds in Paypal to pay for something else.

I'd accept a PO as suggested.

or you can both agree to mutually withdraw - there is an option that fits your situ.

itsahardknocklife · 04/03/2008 20:57

oh right - what happens with regard to fees then?

Which fees?? If you treat it as an unpaid item reason unacceptable method of payment then you'd get a credit for your listing fee only ( doesn't include gallery picture fees etc ) or offer it to another bidder as a 2nd offer - no further Ebay fees charged.

If buyer sends you a postal order then it's a bonus really as you're saving the Paypal fee. And they're pretty safe. Wouldn't recommend cash in post really - although I have had payment this way and had no probs.
