Can anyone recommend some decent scales that don't cost the earth?

I'm going to be selling more regularly and want to stop guesstimating postage costs and taking a hit when I get it wrong!

I use these kitchen scales

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ACCUWEIGHT-Multifunctional-Electronic-Weighting-Tempered/dp/B07KC3HPVN

As they are kitchen rather than parcel scales the readout is flat on top whereas parcel scale readouts face forwards or at an angle allowing for packages that cover the surface

As long as the item is a reasonable weight/size I can fit them, and if the position of the read out is no good then I add something else in between - usually a mug or roll of tape

When things were occaionaly over 5kgs I’ve used bathroom scales

PS If you are pre-weighing for a guide postage price then consider how much gets added on by final packaging

I use a lot of packaging and tape, but it’s always more than I would imagine for half a sheet of paper and some tape, let alone a box and padding etc

I reuse packaging received and delivery boxes from a friends shop, usually cutting boxes down for a custom fit.

(Note that commercial boxes can get quite heavy - they are obviously intended to be sturdy in transit - which can mean that I’m trying to fine tune within a pricing threshold)

Then black bags, label and tape

I just have basic digital kitchen scales too. I rarely send anything over 5kg.

So far I've managed to get away with using those, even for medium parcels. I paid under a tenner at Lidl. If I had a parcel that was too big I'd weight the box and the contents separately.

The only thing I would say about them is find out what battery they take and buy a backup.
