oh no!

proof of postage is worthless isn't it? You need trackable eg recorded delivery.

It's a common scam I'm afraid

Sorry don't know how to advise or anything but you've just stopped me getting my camera out for tonights planned ebay listing session.
Will just carry on putting stuff in the loft now saving it up for a big car boot sale if ever we move house. Just feel like I don't want to risk ebay again as I got bad feedback last sale (a £3 pair of shoes fgs) without the buyer even emailing or opening a dispute first. Its really put me off.
What was your item? Is it a lot of money?
I will in sympathy with you.

the same happened to us! some bloody bastard took £40 back off us which we can ill afford because he said he'd moved house since giving us the address and we didn't double check. without recorded delivery paypal were totally on his side. I'm still furious about it and HATE paypal.

blueshoes · 19/02/2008 21:03

cathshuck, the buyer stinks.

Without recorded delivery, paypal will refund him. Paypal is very much biased in favour of the buyer. So you can decide whether you want to accept paypal in the future - some sellers refuse to accept paypal for this reason, and also the fees, of course. But buyers like their paypal.

For this transaction, I assume the buyer is claiming the goods did not arrive. If so, you can claim from Royal Mail with your proof of postage for up to £34, I believe.

How are you certain that item did arrive? What is his feedback score like?

As far as I know, the buyer is only entitled to open a dispute if he either "does not receive the item or receives an item that he believs is Significantly Not as Described by the seller" - paraphrasing the dispute procedure from the paypal site.

He can escalate the dispute into a claim but then paypal will gather info from you, as it sounds like they did. Did you forward paypal the feedback he left as proof of receipt (they don't accept proof of postage from Royal Mail). If so, did they ignore the feedback and allow a reclaim based on a flimsy excuse that he did not mean to make payment (??).

If you have proof of receipt and the feedback to me is pretty conclusive, paypal are not legally entitled to refund. It is against their own terms and conditions. Can you clarify?

KacyB · 19/02/2008 21:38

I agree Paypal is pretty biased towards the seller... but ++ feedback????????????

What's his explanation for leaving it?

blueshoes · 19/02/2008 21:38

If it is only £6.20, you might want to just neg him, assuming you haven't already left feedback.

Tbh, he is a very silly buyer to risk negative feedback by claiming chargeback for only £6.20. I mean, if you are going to defraud, at least do it for a larger amount.

Have you asked him to return the goods?
