Collection in person as an option

I am currently selling DS's old Lego on FB and eBay with mixed success.

There are some bigger sets that are quite high value but I find it very competitive on the FB groups as lots of members seem to be selling much newer sets and my post often gets drowned out after the newer ones get posted.

I will try to list these sets on eBay, but given how bulky they are, postage will be high and packaging them securely will be cumbersome, so I am going to offer collection in person.

How does this work on eBay? Would I need to insist on cash only to ensure no false claims of non receipt of goods? If someone went ahead and paid using eBay payments, would I be able to refund them so that they pay by cash?

Thanks in advance.

I always insist on cash as I have been scammed by a collection item when the person paid by paypal then claimed I gave them the wrong item after they walked away with it so I lost the item and my money.

I put it in bold on the advert and remind them in ebay messages when arranging a time to collect.

I will never accept paypal again for collection.

Thanks both. I think I will still oyt cash on collection fir higher value items, especially after reading stories such as yours @roses2.

In the end, my item got sold on FB.

I find parcel2go a good resource when selling on eBay. It's a courier comparison website so you can see the cheapest carrier for your item.

Speaking for myself, I'd rather pay for postage than collection on eBay unless it's a piano or gym equipment etc. Good you've sold it but Lego usually does well on eBay (my son has a Lego shop and makes far more than me!).

I tried to do cash on collection for some items recently and just got monumentally messed around. Mostly men who would bid something stupid like £1.50 and then offer a fiver for postage (but not just postage but all the packaging etc that I didn't want to do as it was a heavy piece of hifi equipment.in the end I went to Facebook market place.
