WWYD- Quick question

I saw something I wanted to buy and have been looking at for ages. Asked seller for a buy it now price, which he suggested and I agreed to. He then asked me to paypal payment and he would then send the item. I responded asking him to end the auction and send me an invoice. He replied along the lines of "I don't need to end the auction mate(!) I have more to sell, you send me the payment and I'll post the item.

My questions- would I be a fool to do this? He has 100% positive feedback. Would I be covered by paypal if it was a scam? Would he be breaking ebay rules? And is he being arsey about it or is that me?! He thinks I am a bloke btw (not that that has anything to do with anything)

btw I would just bid in the auction but dont think I would get it for the price he has quoted me.

TIA for any words of wisdom

P.S. I really really want the item, but dont let that sway you at all

is he selling more than 1 of the same thing? can you put a lnk to the item

discoverlife · 16/02/2008 00:32

have a look at his feedback and see if he has sold anymore of the item. If he has then ask for his address for your own protection. Then its up to you.
I don't think you are covered by pay-pal refund rules because it has been done outside the ebay auctions. Don't forget if you buy it off auction, you can't give feedback, and neither could anybody he amy or may not have scammed.

he isnt selling more of the exact same item, it's ugg boots and I take it he means he has more size 4 so can just send them to auction winner. Rather than "I'm not ending it for you, dont need your sale, you pays your £ you takes your chances"! I hope anyway!

I don't think you'd be covered by buyer protection as you would be acting outside ebay if he doesn't end auction and invoice you (I think).
If you are worried you will lose the money then bid instead. Even if you pay a bit more its still 'cheaper' than losing the money and still not having the item.
If you don't win the auction and he has more than one item then I will bet he'd offer you a 2nd chance at your bid price.
Check his feedback, if its all good then you could send him the money. If not....

it sounds like a bunch of the "somethings" fell off a lorry or whatever. It doesn't mean to say that he is going to scam you, he just wants his cash [ok well his paypal]
With paypal you have £150 of insurance but you need adequate proof that you have not received the item or that it is not as described etc. My DH recently got the £150 out of them when a piece of photography equipment arrived with a fault, and the sender disputed that there was anything wrong with it, he had to get a camera shop opinion quoted to prove that it was a manufacturing fault, at which point the insurance paid up.
If the something is more than £150 then I would be tempted to wait for another seller to have one

Thats what I thought Flibb, all of the above! Think I will sleep on it. Thanks

Urgh, ugg boots.

gigglewitch · 16/02/2008 00:36

on hearing that extra info, I would also go back and bid. Take the whole thing through the auction or whatever, be visible.

thritbies · 16/02/2008 00:39

Thanks for that too

all good advice there.
you will have no protection.

also be careful - I've heard there are a lot of fake uggs on ebay

sixlostmonkeys · 16/02/2008 10:23

oh btw - he could always do a BIN for you

thritbies · 18/02/2008 20:59

Well took your advice and decided to wait for the auction, got it for £8 less than the BIN he offered me! So good result, even if it is for ugg boots
