Seller 'passing off' Primark stuff as more expensive - par for the course, or a bit cheeky?

Bought something off eBay which was described as BNWOT, RRP £14.99.
When it arrived it's 'Rebel Active' from Primark, and there's no way it would ever have been more than about £5, and was probably in the sale for about £3! I paid about £4.00 + same in postage.

I can't decide whether I should just learn from it, and always ask sellers what brand it is in future, or e-mail the seller and tell her that I think the RRP was deceptive and gave the impression of a higher quality item?

without knowing what the rrp is for sure you haven't got an argument.

always ask questions prior to bidding.

primark stuff has been known to sell for high prices even when the brand name is stated

Happened to me once - I bought a pair of "beautiful designer trousers"...I mean, I guess they were designed...by Tesco Just chalked it up to experience

That's Ebay for you.

moljam · 11/02/2008 11:30

i think if you like the item and happily paid the price surely it doesnt matter where its from.i think the whole rrp on ebay is bit silly as they could say anything-as it looks like they have.

Gameboy · 11/02/2008 11:38

I just suppose that if the listing had said Rebel Active or Primark I wouldn't have bid so high!

Am half inclined to leave +ve feedback which says, "A nice XXXXXX from Primark"

I don't shop at Primark as we don't have one locally but I've bought "like new" or "BNWOT" Rebel Active boys clothes via ebay and always been pleased with the quality thereof without knowing that it was a Primark brand. I wouldn't have guessed it was Primark and it won't put me off buying such items again in the future.

I always ignore RRP's even when they are stated in a sale/discount type store as they mean nothing. People are very slapdash with their assessment of an items RRP as far as I can see on eBay.

Are you happy with the item and the final cost ?

If not you could leave a positive but say "I wouldn't have bid so high if I'd know it was only from Primark"

MAMAZON · 18/02/2008 15:35

you paid what you thought was fair for teh item. i assume you saw a picture of the item?

does it matter what they would have originally cost? so long as you paid what you considered a reasonable amount.

twospecialgirls · 18/02/2008 15:49

i always ask where its from but sellers dont have to say and if you bothered you should ask and you must have thought the item was worth wat you paid or you wouldnt have paid it x but i would be miffed if i paid over the odds for something though x just ask infuture x

rrp's are meaningless , even legally among large retailers. It is an arbitrary figure and officially rarely used these days to indicate a price reduction.
