We had to remove your listing because it didn’t follow our Offensive material policy. Listings that promote or glorify hatred, violence, or discrimination aren’t allowed.

Obviously eBay thinks it goes against their guidelines. I had no clue and I'm rather embarrassed.

What would you assume I was selling? I want to know if it's obvious to everyone but me.

Thanks.

.

Interesting that they allow discrimination by sex.

loveinthe90s · 02/11/2022 13:19

Still makes no sense! There's nothing offensive there at all.

In which case query it with eBay, as they have pages and pages of evacuee costumes from WWII

Maybe someone specifically reported it? I might ask them.

I’m a massive history nerd - to the point that every time someone mentions Stone Henge I have to whisper ‘it’s not a henge’ under my breath - but this thread is pretty harsh. OP mixed up some history facts. She admitted she made a mistake because she didn’t know. Carrying on explaining just how wrong she was and how embarrassed she should be just smacks of showing off.
I have glaring gaps in my contemporary knowledge, an argument could be made that I don’t pay attention to the world I live in and miss out on interactions as a result. It’s true, but I don’t care enough to change it.

Is Stone "Henge" ok ... 😁

Ironically, even though Stonehenge has an earthwork circle around it (the earliest phase of the monument), it isn’t officially a ‘proper’ henge, as the main ditch is external to the main bank. It has to make do with being a ‘proto-henge’.

Was there something else in your description?

You didn't mention anything about Germans bombing your chip shop, did you? Grin

meatballsoup · 02/11/2022 13:26

Sometimes there is just no rhyme or reason to what gets removed. I listed some football boots on a local site & my post was removed for breaking the site rules?. Crazy

Opaljewel · 02/11/2022 13:32

Two of my expensive eyeshadow palettes were removed because apparently they are counterfeit. I bought both from tkmaxx so they bloody aren't, just not used. I appealed and got no where!

Choconut · 02/11/2022 13:37

I just assumed you meant Victorian/evacuee OP as it seems to be the same grey/brown dowdy dress up with a flat cap type thing for both.

I love how people are 'terrified' and 'horrified' that people don't know the random dates of things that happened in the past - who the fuck cares?? I very happily don't know when Edward the Confessor was around and it has had neither terrifying nor horrifying consequences.

Leave the OP alone with your mock horror, she's already said she has multiple disabilities and considers herself not very clever - which I'm sure is completely untrue, she probably just doesn't learn in the way schools are set up to teach - but all you're doing is confirming the awful things she already believes to be true.

Thank you so much for staying connected. Upon reviewing the listing itself, I can see that it breached our listing policy. eBay's community is a diverse, international group of users with varied backgrounds and beliefs, and it's easy to imagine how some items listed on eBay might be offensive to at least some of our users somewhere in the world.

I told them there are numerous items on eBay exactly the same.

They said I could speak to a specialised team to appeal it but I've got to go out now.

It just demonstrates the ignorance of the techies who set the controls or whatever. Evacuees to them will mean Ukrainians, refugees, etc. Absolutely ridiculous and shows not only a limited vocabulary but a lack of general knowledge. Apart from the intended and pretty obvious context, we have people evacuated in this country frequently from flooded areas etc.

I honestly didn't even connect it to Syria.

I think it was Victorian Day. It was 4/5 years ago. I advertised the label and beret. I couldn't find the hat or bag. I may have sold them. I'll probably throw these now lol.

sorry OP, but I am still baffled. Did your kids go into school on Victorian day in an evacuee beret and label?

Victorian day is long skirts and Pinafore aprons.
Evacuee is WW2 1940s

Keroppi · 02/11/2022 13:41

"To be fair, absolutely everything that's sold on eBay is actively promoting discrimination, as it's blatantly discriminating against anybody who can't afford to buy it. I know that there are loads of things sold with 'buy it now' these days, but it started as an auction site - which is the sheer epitome of discrimination against the poor."

That's certainly a take. Hmm

FatOaf · 02/11/2022 13:43

A fart in a jam jar?

My nephew sold one of these on eBay many years ago. Not sure whether the buyer ever opened it.

ahunf · 02/11/2022 13:44

@steppemum It was for A Victorian or WW2 Day but yes she wore that. My god. Glad it was years ago. I do feel bad if that was the case.

Ridiculous it's not dressing as a current day refugee!

vera99 · 02/11/2022 13:51

Probably just the repeated bot hoping you will give up and not take it further. There is a phone number for those that can be bothered to spend hours of wasted time trying to get sense.

picklemewalnuts · 02/11/2022 13:56

@ahunf don't worry about what your DC wore on that day at school! If it was a wartime day, then she'll have been spot on.

If it was a Victorian day, then bar the label it would still have been good.

Don't worry about mixing your words up. Basically it was a history dress up day.

You're being very patient and gracious about the posters picking holes in your comments.

Some people find detail easy. For other people, pinning down the details takes far too much energy unless there's a particular need. That's fine.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 02/11/2022 13:58

A fart in a jam jar?

I just actually searched for this (what have I become?) and there are numerous ones freely available. One even includes the word 'fetish'. Aside from the grim aspect of it, from a purely technical perspective, there's no way they can prove the authenticity of what they're selling - so very ripe (so to speak) for fraud!

That's certainly a take. Hmm

Yes, a clearly hyperbolic one, framed in the ridiculousness of eBay's stance in this case.

I'm thinking (hoping) that because I can't find the Dress and Bag maybe she wore just those two on the day. Still not a Victorian outfit but better than a Evacuee!!!

WhatNoRaisins · 02/11/2022 14:02

Not the point of the thread but what's the point of these historical days if people just buy inaccurate costumes without even trying to cobble something together that at least vaguely looks like something from a history book? What is anyone learning from this exercise?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 02/11/2022 14:02

eBay's community is a diverse, international group of users with varied backgrounds and beliefs, and it's easy to imagine how some items listed on eBay might be offensive to at least some of our users somewhere in the world.

Just a thought, but could people maybe just not search for or buy anything that they find offensive in the first place? There are so many way more offensive things online than anything to be found for sale on eBay - if adults can't cope with that reality, maybe going online is not for them.

That reminds me of the Ricky Gervais joke that's just been in the news after James Corden 'paid tribute' to it - about people who don't want guitar lessons getting furious at seeing posters advertising to those who do want them.
