Dishonest seller cancelled sale and relisted item at a higher price

I bought an item of children's clothing in an auction - starting at 99p and I won it for £1.20, Plus p&p. The seller cancelled the sale claiming that it had a tear. I said I'd be happy to receive it anyway, but she said she was not willing to sell a damaged item.

Fair enough. Annoying. But fair enough.

I have just seen the exact same item relisted at a far higher starting price. There is no mention of the repair in the description. So its clear that she regretted selling it for such low price, and lied about the damage. I really want to raise this with eBay, but is there any point? None of the options in the drop down 'report' menus fit. Maybe people do this all the time, but I haven't come across it before. It is just so dishonest!

Report with Ebay. Both buyers and sellers acting without integrity need removing.

We had this with a large expensive item we won for £150. It was instantly cancelled and then resisted a few days later.
ebay weren’t interested.

Report to eBay and just use the menu option that seems closest.

It's really annoying.

I'd report it but don't expect anything of it.

This happened to me on Vinted.
I bought a particular cath Kidston bag I wanted for ages for £18 ( I had notifications set up for it so if new one popped up I would buy it immediately)
In 1 hr she cancelled the sale, saying she won’t be able post it as going away .
I guess she googled this bag up and perhaps noticed that people sell theirs for £20 - £30 so she decided to cancel it.
I literally begged her to sell it to me, she ignored me.
Soon after I noticed she relisted it for £35 it is still listed even now and another popped up few weeks later for me to buy for £15 brand new.

Thankfully I've not had this with magic the gathering cards, but apparently it's been known on some trades that sellers have done similar when the prices rise.

TheWitchersWife · 03/11/2022 08:55

I've had this several times over the years.
Ebay don't care. Just be glad you aren't out of pocket and move on.
It's shite and really unfair when you've won and paid and they aren't keeping up their end of the bargain.
But no one will do anything.

I had an item stolen after I won it at a low price.
I played with the seller for a bit, asked for a crime reference number as arguably having already paid for the item it was mine etc. In the end I left feedback that stated:

Distinctive Item was STOLEN before I could collect. How incredibly unfortunate...

They never resisted it under that account as anyone checking their feedback would then know what they were up to. As it happens I got a better one for the same money locally a week later.

In this case I'd have left feedback stating:

So sorry X ITEM was torn and you couldn't sell it.

@Catsforeverinlove - Glad you got your bag. This boggles my mind on Vinted. I sometimes get offers through and if the item has sat there for a few weeks I normally accept (unless it’s so ridiculous I’d rather just give it to charity than deal with the postage hassle). I offered on a dress recently that had been up for 8 months. I offered £7.50 on a £10 dress, seller declined and then raised the price to £12… why?!

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 23/11/2022 15:39

Had the same recently when I brought something off eBay. I won the bid, paid £130 straight away but seller decided not to sell it to me. Kept me waiting a week then sent a message saying couldn’t send apparently because the “post office were being funny and refused to post item’’ next day relisted for an even higher price, so I reported.
