Someone has asked if I will send an item abroad

Do I need to send it international signed for? It ends up quite expensive as they add £3.50

is the address different to address on paypal as i would not send to any other address than registered payp[al address

its not for mobile phone is it? i had many scams asking me to send to address other than registered paypal if you do this you are not covered by paypal for any losses so i would say you will send to registered address and they can send to the other

Flllightattendant · 27/01/2008 09:47

It will need to be signed for/airsure, do not send surface/economy mail as it will take weeks and by then your buyer may have claimed Item Not Received through paypal...

Do not send anything to a different address to the one registered with Paypal...

Ignore and report any suggestions about Nigeria. It is a well known scam.

Your item must fit in a box no bigger than 30x30x30 cm or it will be returned to you by the post office.

What are you sending?

Flllightattendant · 27/01/2008 09:48

(it has to be trackable online, so you can prove delivery if there is a dispute - otherwise you are b*ggered!)

they have not yet bid on the shoes

I often sell my daughters old clothes on ebay and they often go to foriegn biders especially american.

I just give the buyer a choice, i think they use airsure and have never had any problems. I don't think I have ever used signed for, but only sell to poeple with lots of good varied feedback.

I just posted a parcel to greece and said I would only send it signed for an dthe buyer would have to cover extra cost, which he did.

Brangelina · 28/01/2008 09:46

If it's small enough then do international signed for, not least because in some countries (eg. Greece, Italy) the postal service is pretty dire so you and the buyer need some guarantee it will arrive.

There is absolutely no problem sending abroad, there are lots of perfectly honest people living outside the UK - I am "abroad" and often buy from ebay UK. My paypal address is also different from my postal address as well, as I usually need stuff to be sent to my or my DP's office where I'm sure someone is going to be in to sign for it. If the feeback is good then I really don't see why you should worry.

ConnorTraceptive · 28/01/2008 10:04

Ooh the parcel I just sent was too Greece! Very relieved I sent it signed for now.

Brangelina · 28/01/2008 10:23

Connor, it probably would have arrived anyway, it just might have taken ages. I'm in Italy and have also sometimes receive non sign-for parcels, although I tend to get them sent to my office as I find it helps having a work address, seems to speed things up.

I was just a bit perplexed at how many people are mistrustful of "forriners". I will say that the only time I have been diddled on ebay was from someone from the UK, all the continentals I've dealt with have been perfectly honest.

ConnorTraceptive · 28/01/2008 10:27

I wasnn't wooried so much about the buyer it's just the first time i'd posted abroad and the item was worth £50 so sod's law it would have gotten lost if i'd sent it standard.

TheBlonde · 28/01/2008 10:28

It is more the hassle of calculating the postage overseas

the person doesn't have great feedback

OP posts:
Brangelina · 28/01/2008 10:34

If you know the weight you can calculate using the Royal Mail website, I use that when checking some UK sellers' extortionate postage charges.

If feedback not good then definitely use a trackable service and get it signed for. As long as the money arrives up front (paypal or whatever) then you should be covered.

Sorry, my comments weren't aimed specifically at you, I was just a bit at a couple of the replies. I'm afraid I get a bit indignant about it.

ConnorTraceptive · 28/01/2008 10:39

You can calculate international signed for delivery on the royal mail website.

sixlostmonkeys · 28/01/2008 10:42

brangelina - I think you've mis read the replies. the replies just advise sending items recorded etc in order to cover yourself, just as you do if sending within the UK

TheBlonde · 28/01/2008 11:01

can anyone explain to me the difference between international signed for and airsure?

OP posts:
sixlostmonkeys · 28/01/2008 11:20

airsure doesn't provide you with a tracking number

i think.....

someone else will know

Brangelina · 28/01/2008 11:28

If I've misconstrued then I apologise, I just read the answers in relation to the thread title. PMT probably doesn't help.

Airsure is tracked, plus it is priority (in the UK at least, no guarantee about it being treated as priority once off British soil). It also costs more as there is more compensation if lost. International signed for is its poor relation, but you do get a signature back to confirm delivery.

Oops, I hope that makes sense.
