send them some money back via paypal?

I feel really bad about it. Calculated the cost on line and it came to £24.00 but took it to the post office yesterday and it was £12.00. The price of postage is on the label they put on package so buyer will know how much it cost.

Shall I just send them £10.00 today and a message explaining or wait until they recieve it first?? I don't want to look like I was trying to rip them off.

That is a big difference, so personally I would refund them £10. You will get good feedback! Did you get a fair price for the actual goods? If you think they got the item too cheap you could be less generous with the postage refund.

FrannyandZooey · 26/01/2008 08:47

you are not under any obligation to do so but it would be an honest and decent thing to do. I would do it now before they receive the item - why wait?

ConnorTraceptive · 26/01/2008 08:48

Yes he did 'buy it now', so I got what I hoped for.

I'll refund him now.

This happened to me recently and the buyer refunded us £4 by paypal before we even received the goods. As a gesture of goodwill I think that was brilliant - also they will stand out in my mind now as a good person to buy from in the future as they are so honest!

if it was a difficult to wrap item (I'm thinking of the hours dh and I have sometimes spent wraping particularly tricky parcels) then you could perhaps refund less than £10 but I would def refund the something although it probably did sell for less because the postage was high IYSWIM

Yes I think so Connor...tis a big discrepancy. If it's less than fiver difference I wouldn't bother - remember it is a charge for packaging materials as well, so factor those in and it might not seem so huge a difference.
How did you get on with your other buyer? Where were you posting to by the way? Did they speak good English? I wondered about that when they misunderstood your postage.

Flllightattendant · 26/01/2008 08:51

BTW I've done this a lot, so don't feel bad! I estimated £15 once and it was 25...I had to suck that one up! She said she'd 'owe' me it...

ConnorTraceptive · 26/01/2008 09:01

I've done it so feel much better now. £10.00 is a lot of money to over pay buy.

My packaging costs have been covered so now no one is losing out.

FA: All sorted with the other buyer too.

I'm a bit 'green' when it comes to ebaying so will have to be a lot more carefull although I really don't understand how I got the price I did when I looked it up on Royal Mail Site. Think next time I'll pop to post office and get an accurate price on anything I'm unsure about.

Oh Connor, you'll soon get used to it - I never put a price if I'm not sure, then you can weigh it once packed and get an estimate after the sale.

Have fun and keep asking if you need advice, glad to help you out x

Thanks FA

I've refunded this way a few times in the past - usually just a couple of pound - BUT... I've never yet had any acknowledgment of the refund/gesture

it's the right thing to do though

Wish i had bought off you! I think that is really honest of you to want to do that.

My seller has charged me £10 p and p which I queried and they offered me 50p discount! Told them not to bother, when i got the items it had cost them £1.75, , so i left nuetral feedback, now they have left negatives saying i am selfish and wanted them to post for free!! Blooming liars.
