Just sold a coat on Ebay.
Buyer has sent me a 'please send me total amount for this item' email for the item(before i had a chance to send invoice!)
On the email she has added the following...

I have purchased the following item on eBay from you. Please send me the total amount I owe you.

Thankyou for selling this item. Can I question the postage as it seems double the price of other sellers coats gap....they are priced at small package and are bigger sizes than yours. When you can recaculate I will pay straight away. Many thanks.

I am . Why bid if not happy with postage cost? Actual postage cost to me will be around £4.25. I charged £6 postage to cover large postage bag.

Am i right in thinking that is a fair postage price?

I will of course be just sending invoice an NOT changing P+P cost!

Sounds like you have given a perfectly reasonable postage price to me. Packing isn't cheap unless you have an old binbag to hand or a large enough second hand envelope.

What a cheeky so and so - I don't bid if I don't like the postage charge. Have you looked at his feedback?

Cannot see how anyone can post a coat for half what you are charging.

CarGirl · 25/01/2008 21:56

if they ask about your charges remember your petrol to the post office (could be miles) and your car parking charges

LittleMissNorty · 25/01/2008 21:57

I would just point out that they have entered a legal contract by agreeing to purchase and they knew the P&P costs beforehand and you will report them to e-bay as a non-paying bidder if they don't pay within 7 days. Then either re-list or do a 2nd chance offer.

Bloody cheek! They are not allowed to do that - even if you had of been unreasonable (and tbh I don't think you were)

coby · 25/01/2008 21:58

anyway...what does 'they are priced at small package mean?' What royal mail service did you select - maybe she thinks you are sending special delivery or something

btw my hubby gave an appropriate response for you to give her but I think it might adversely affect your feedback rating

tortoise · 25/01/2008 21:59

Feedback 28
Positive Feedback: 96.7%
Only 1 neg left but its not shown. They don't seem to use Ebay much!

Am going to send invoice now! Might add actaul postage price so they know i'm not ripping them off on postage! It is a very thick padded coat!

tortoise · 25/01/2008 22:00

I always post 1st class unless it is a really heavy item then i use standard parcels.

OP posts:
coby · 25/01/2008 22:02

Well £6 postage fpr a very thick padded coat seems very good to me. Next time lets hope she decides to bid on the ones with the cheaper postage instead

tortoise · 25/01/2008 22:11

Invoice sent.
Waiting for payment now.

Do you think they will be a bit miffed that i didn't reduce the postage for them?

OP posts:
coby · 25/01/2008 22:14

probably but stand your ground! Bet you get crappy feedback for your postage charges though - don't leave any feedback until you know what they have left you (check to see what your P&P feedback is now and then see how it changes once they have left their feedback)

tortoise · 25/01/2008 22:15

lol good idea! I will be keeping an eye out for feedback!

you could suggest you post it to her for the actual stamp cost and just plonk a label on the coat (no packaging) or she can sent you the packaging and you put it in there....

sixlostmonkeys · 25/01/2008 22:28

your P&P is is fine - if you are tempted to get into a discussion with her about it I wouldn't mention petrol and parking as this will open a whole big can o worms.

I'd send the invoice - if she questions it simply reply with "postage as stated on listing"

send a reminder, then eventually open a non payer dispute.

thats the simple way - if you want to have fun you could respond to her emails with helpful suggestions (some already suggested) like "I am prepared to cut the arms of the coat thus allowing me to post it 50p cheaper. or - I am willing to file for non payment, get my fees back, give you a strike and then you are free to buy one of those 'other' coats you mention....

sixlostmonkeys · 25/01/2008 22:30

oh, the thing with the star ratings - you can't tell who reduces the stars as such. You may find that your stars stay the same and then in 6 transactions time it will drop, or maybe in 2 transaction's time or 15... iyswim

Pannacotta · 25/01/2008 22:31

Charging P&P the seller is allowed to charge a small handling fee to cover your time etc, as well as packaging material etc, not simply actual postage cost. Your p&p is completely fair and you've done the right thing, the buyer is obviously not an experienced ebay user.
Though have to say that unlike Cargirl I do not think its fair to expect the buyer to cover petrol/parking costs etc and I dont think that is supposed to be calculated in your p&p costs.

tortoise · 25/01/2008 22:36

SLM Lol@ fun ways!

I have sent the invoice so will see what happens.

I walk everywhere so can't count petrol anyway lol!

CarGirl · 25/01/2008 22:39

Pan I just remember someone saying how they lived about 10 miles from their nearest post office so posting stuff was somewhat more expensive than the actual cost to them IYSWIM - plus your time to travel that distance etc.

I'm a great believer if you don't like the P&P quoted don't bid! Plus dh send everything recorded now as he's been ripped off by several people who pretend they've never recieved it (and then list the said item on ebay within a week!)

sixlostmonkeys · 25/01/2008 22:39

hehe - the tortoise walks to the post office? you had better tell her it may be some weeks before she gets it

boom boom tish

ok ok sorry I'm off to bed now ...

tortoise · 25/01/2008 22:41

PMSL!! Very good SLM!

if you click on detailed feedback on their feedback page you can usually see all of their feedback from the get go.

tortoise · 29/01/2008 20:49

Still no payment/contact. Worried they aren't going to pay now.

OP posts:
meandboys · 29/01/2008 20:56

email her again, and ask her if she is still interested or not as you need/want to send item out!

I hate it when people do this, fgs

nappyaddict · 30/01/2008 16:14

did you explain to her it is only an extra 1.75 on top of what the postage cost is and that is to cover petrol/parking/packaging etc?

Hecate · 30/01/2008 16:18

Send her a breakdown

4.25 stamps 1.50 padded envelope 20p tissue/bubblewrap 5p sellotape

£6 total P(postage) & P(packaging)

tortoise · 30/01/2008 20:22
