Non paying buyers

I've sold things off and on on eBay for over 10 years - not in a commercial way at all - just getting rid of things I no longer use/need/want that are worth selling. It's been a very useful source of extra cash when things are a bit tight, which they are now as I think they are for many. I have listed about 10 items over the last few weeks, mainly for auction. So far I've had 2 non paying buyers - they won the auction but never paid. I cancelled after the allotted time and re-listed the items and annoyingly they have just sold for less than the non paying people bid. On Saturday morning I sold an item for a really good price and so far that buyer hasn't paid either or replied to a reminder so I think they'll be a non payer too. Til the recent non payers this had only happened to me once maybe in 10 years, so it seems like a lot. I wondered if any other sellers have experienced non paying buyers being an increasing problem and if so, whether you have any tips for deterring it. Thanks

I've had more this year than in the last 6 years put together along with some pretty cheeky messages from them, and I can't think of a way to deter them because you can no longer leave negative feedback for buyers. All you can do is block them - but apparently people can get round that by changing their username!

You could list as Buy It Now and set as immediate payment required. So if they don't pay the listing stays live.

Thanks. That buyer from Saturday paid today so I now only have 2 non payers; have adjusted my settings to block those with 2 or more non payment strikes in 6 months. I could do more BINs but on most of the stuff I sell auction is the most expected format and works well when I have no idea how to price an item! Will see how it goes

This is what I do. Safer. The buyer has to commit and pay at the point of sale.

If you want to know how to price an item.
You search for the item.
Then go to filters and select 'sold items'.
The prices of the sold items will appear.

I usually take a handful that are in similar condition and do an average price.

The only problem with BIN is you can't take advantage of the reduced fee offers, so maybe use it for more expensive items or slow movers, and use the reduced listing fee offers for less expensive ones?
