OK have an item on ebay that had a buy it now option of £29.99 plus £10.00 postage.

Had a message from a buyer asking if I would be willing to ship it abroad. I checked out the prices and sent back the following message:

"Yes I can ship abroad have checked the postal prices and I would need you to send an extra £20.00 to my paypal to cover the extra cost of postage"

Would you understand that to mean that you be paying a total of £59.99?? as buyer has now bought it now but only sent £49.99??

Haven't contacted her yet just wondering if this is my fault??

HELP!!!!

sorry but I would thave thought 49.99 too...

Dropdeadfred · 24/01/2008 12:57

Send he an invoice for the furthe r£10 and in the notes state that it is for postage costs as explained in previous email

madamez · 24/01/2008 12:57

TBH I would have added that up as £49.99 myself, or at least might have done. I think the buyer has made an honest mistake rather than a deliberate attempt to pay less than you asked for and unfortunately I don't think you can ask for the extra £10 without causing yourself a lot of hassle, particularly if buyer gets stroppy.

CountessDracula · 24/01/2008 12:59

I think you should be ok

You did say an extra £20. Extra on top of exisiting

nappymadmummy · 24/01/2008 12:59

I can see why the buyer might have thought you meant the postage would be £20 but that is the buyer misreading what you've put. I think you've clearly said it's an extra £20 to cover extra postage costs so, imo, that means on top of what you would have charged.

I guess it would have been clearer though had you put "It would be an extra £20 to cover additional postage costs, bring the total to £59.99 including postage"

Flllightattendant · 24/01/2008 13:00

Apologise for confusion, reiterate the word 'extra' and total postage, and offer to cancel sale if they prefer. Then send a money request thru paypal, easy peasy. They can say yes or no.

SnappyLaGore · 24/01/2008 13:02

i wouldve added to 4999 too... you can email to clarify, but they may well want to pull out and i think you should allow them if they want to tbh

IdrisTheDragon · 24/01/2008 13:03

I would have thought it was £59.99

TheHonEnid · 24/01/2008 13:12

it costs £30 to ship abroad? what is it?

ConnorTraceptive · 24/01/2008 13:26

Oh I think it's a genuine misunderstanding on the buyers part and I'm kicking myself for not being much clearer in my message duh!! That's why I don't want to rush in and ask the extra £10 postage.

hmmm I'm not sure what to do, maybe I could ask her to split the difference and send five pounds.

The reason it's so much to post is it's quite heavy and I've said I'll only send abroad using the international signed for delivery service, which would also cover the item with insurance.

I would read it as £59.99 too. I think you should tell them you need the extra £10 or give them the choice of not proceeding and you refund them.

Flllightattendant · 24/01/2008 13:29

Just ask her, Connor - I had this happen a couple of weeks back, be really apologetic but explain that you need to cover the actual postage cost. She will probably be fine about it.

Btw does it fit in the correct sized box - ISF is a max 30x30x30 box these days - why I no longer send bigger dolls abroad.

I had a packet returned to me one time because it was about 2cm over the limit!

ConnorTraceptive · 24/01/2008 13:41

Ok I will email her and apologise for not being clear and give her the option of a refund too if she doesn't want to pay the extra £10

Didn't know about the box size thing FA so thanks for the heads up, have just checked it's well within.

babyjjbaby · 24/01/2008 13:42

i make it £59.99

LadyOfTheCauliFlowers · 24/01/2008 13:46

If someone said to me 'an extra £20' I would read that as the price of the item, the price of quoted on listing postage and an additional £20 on top.

moljam · 24/01/2008 13:53

id think 49.99.
id just email explaining .sure will be fine!

ConnorTraceptive · 24/01/2008 14:03

Have emailed her so we'll see what she says, have offered refund too.

Ah well a lesson learnt for the novice ebayer!
