Best postage for expensive item on ebay?

I want to sell something which is going for £90 plus. Others are selling similar items with just second class post and that cost around £4. However, I can't risk this item getting lost.
What is the best way to list postage that is signed for and reliable?

I'd use Royal Mail First Class Signed For.

thank you.
Would you use couriers like Evri - not sure they are a possibility on Ebay though?

If you're going to use a courier use DPD. They're more expensive than Evri but so much more reliable as easy to contact.

For that value you need tracked and not signed for.

I use the following guidelines for my ebay business. I don't stick to them absolutely religiously but they help.
Uo to about £30, normal first class post
£30-100ish signed for
£100 upwards recorded.

It all depends on how much you are willing to risk losing.
I only use couriers for very heavy items.

If its £50 or under then Royal Mail signed for, over £50 use fully tracked business class.
It also depends what it is, if its perfume or glass then some carriers won't take it, so if its lost you aren't insured at all.

with Royal mail first class or second class signed for covers upto £50 after that it is special delivery which is weight dependent
UPS insures for more next day.
please note that neither Royal mail or any couriers will pay out for broken ceramics or glass some don't eve cover for loss of parcel above cost of postage so read terms if breakable

Its a vintage model car but packed well in a shoe box. So is that recorded delivery best by Royal mail? Around £90+ I value

That should be a small parcel and I estimate would be between £9 and £13 sent Royal Mail Tracked 24 or 48, which is fully tracked and insured.

PimmsOfCourse · 08/08/2022 00:49

@Thelnebriati thank you. Its just thar selling on ebay, everyone has low postal rates. I would stand out cos mine are very high 🙄

I wouldn't worry about it - the only customers you will lose either don't know how much postage costs or don't want expensive items sent tracked, for some unfathomable mysterious reason.

Lushmetender · 25/08/2022 16:07

I’ve had issues with evri- cheap to begin with but then claim your item is heavier than you’ve said and ask you to pay extra!

chillipenguin · 25/08/2022 16:08

Have you considered including the price of postage in your asking price? This often works well I find. Then it can be listed with "free "postage.

PimmsOfCourse · 25/08/2022 22:41

Good idea Chilli
