Can I (buyer) get postage charge refunded for delayed item?

I recently bought an item on eBay, contacted the buyer before purchase and said I needed it by a particular date, would that be possible.

They said yes, would send that day 48 hour delivery. It’s now 6 days later and no sign of the parcel. Assuming it does turn up, am I entitled to any kind of refund of the postage costs?

It depends. If they took your money and did not post within the time frame, or did not use the faster service, you could ask for a refund on the extra postage you paid and if you don't get it contact ebay customer services.
But if its not their fault and the delay is with the Post Office, the seller has fulfilled their part of the contract.

This is why I never promise a delivery date. What happens at the Post Office is outside of my control.

Have you contacted the seller to see whether the hold up is their end or the couriers?

Did you pay extra for 48 hour delivery and did they definitely send it within the time frame?

No, eBay don’t get involved in postage disputes apart from if an item didn’t arrive.

Its not a postage dispute. OP had a contract with the seller.

I paid an extortionate amount for delivery - they seller said they were sending it 48hour delivery and gave me a tracking number, though the tracking number doesn’t work and they are now saying they sent it second class post, so who knows!

I assumed if it were guaranteed 48hr deliver then the seller would be entitled to some degree of refund if that wasn’t honoured, and I wondered if they have pass that onto the buyer?

Though the way things are going it looks increasingly like a missing item…

I would just raise an item not received case at this point.

Ask seller for photo of receipt of posting. Then ask seller for refund of difference between what you paid and what seller paid. Follow up with ebay by reporting seller if this does not work.

If seller said they sent it 2nd class after they gave a promise to send it with a 48 hour service, which is in ebay message records (also specified when you paid I presume, on invoice), then you have strong case for broken contract. Totally reasonable to demand compensation.

Do you want
a) full refund
b) partial refund for the service not received (48 hour delivery)

How much did you pay for delivery and do the order details show that you paid for 48 hour delivery service?

I can totally believe an item sent 6 days ago with ordinary 2nd class hasn't arrived, btw. RM deliveries are a right mess at moment. One of the posties I go to, he issues stark warnings about each parcel. Said something I handed over 2 days ago wouldn't leave our city until tomorrow, which makes me suppose delivery only about end of next week. DS has ordered about 30 items in last 6 weeks; has had items turn up when tracking stubbornly says not delivered, or they get delivered to a random neighbour (not because we were out).

It ended up that it never arrived so I got a full refund
