Courier for fragile items

I want to list an expensive glass light fitting but struggling to find a courier that will offer compensation if it gets broken in transit. Anyone found a courier that will offer cover? Would rather not do collection only as I’m fairly rural and not sure I’ll get many takers that way.

I know this isn't what you want to hear but you might be better off selling it at auction.

Second the PP an actual live auction house would probably be better as most couriers dont offer compensation for glass or maybe find out price for an independant man with a van who could pick it up from you (very well wrapped) and take it straight to buyer

Depending on how valuable it is an auction house might collect it; they'll know how to do that safely and have insurance. Or there are specialist movers.

I ordered a pc from ebay and it came in a large box with lots and lots and lots of padding so even if it was kicked around it couldn't get damaged. Can you pack it in this manner?

Many couriers wont even take glass, if you lie and the item is damaged it wont be covered by their insurance.

It’s already well packed. It’s a Jim lawrence light that we didn’t use but didn’t return in time. In all likelihood it probably wouldn’t get broken but not sure I want to risk it. Think I’ll try eBay collection only & then try local auction house if it doesn’t sell ( fees are a bit higher at the auction house than eBay). Thanks for all the suggestions.

OP have you checked royal mail tracked 24/48? I recently had to sell crockery and glassware and discovered that RM tracked 48 would cover these items if they got damaged. I would advise you check their specific terms and restricted items before opting for this but thought I'd share that they definitely offer insurance/coverage for items other couriers won't. Only thing is I don't think their coverage is above £100 so not sure if this is enough for your light. Hope this helps 🙏🏼

Thanks @RedDeath614 , will check out RM- might take the risk if I can cover some of the costs in case it breaks.

No worries I'm glad to help 😃
Forgot to say special delivery will prob cover the full cost - if they accept the item - but it'll be more expensive overall. But I reckon it's worth checking all of the RM delivery services if they're happy to send fragile items. Best of luck 😊
