HELP!!! Bidder who has just won my auction is in USA - I can only post this item to the UK - what can I do?

Hoping someone can tell me what to do to avoid me getting a negative feedback!!!

A last minute bidder has just won my auction and I stated postage was UK only. They are in the US and I don't want to post to the US as firstly the item is fairly fragile and it is too expensive anyway. Even if they pay the cost, I don't want to be liable to have to refund it in case of any problems etc.

How can I cancel their bid/end the contract I have with them? They have broken the terms of my auction so I am def. justified in doing it, but I just don't know how!

Thanks for any responses!

You can message him and tell him you are going to start the mutual withdrawal process. Be nice in your message because you need him to complete his side so that you can get your fees back.

Alternatively you can find out how much it would cost to send it trackable and insured. This way if it does get damaged you can claim from RM. he may be prepared to pay for the postage.

Change your settings on ebay to block buyers who live in countries you don't post to - to prevent this from happening again.

Thanks for your help, I didn't know you could block buyers who live in countries you don't post to, I will do that.

i would e-mail them to confirm their postal address first of all explaining the situation, they may want the item posted to friends/family in uk. if they do want it posted to usa then i would tell them sorry but no. you can then give a second chance offer to another bidder.
ive had people bid on items ive had for sale when ive stated uk only or paypal only, i drives me mad! do people not read the whole listing!?

crokky · 13/01/2008 20:03

Yes, drives me mad as well - especially as this person has zero feedback so may be a scammer.

ahh perhaps they are just new to ebay then.

I can't find the link that starts off the "buyer and seller mutually agree not to complete transaction" process and I can't seem to locate it by searching the help pages. Does anyone know where it is? I am going to write a nice message, but I definitely don't want to post this item to the US, especially to someone who didn't ask me before bidding and has no feedback.

go via the unpaid item dispute and select mutual withdraw

pages.ebay.co.uk/help/tp/unpaid-item-process.html

olsmum - be careful if you ever come across an overseas buyer who wants the item shipped to a different address. You have to send to the address on paypal otherwise you are not covered.

best to just block in your preferences as stated above, if you prefer not to ship overseas

Thanks, great help!
