Buyer wants to return an item because it's too big?

I've sold a jacket on eBay - the size says 12 on the jacket (it's a well known high street brand) the buyer has tried it on and it's too big for them, they say it's more like a size 14 despite what the label says.

I don't put measurements up because I'm just trying to get rid of unused items and get the listed as quickly as I can.

The jacket sold for £10 the postage was about £4 and obviously eBay took their fees from the £14.

The buyer has asked to return the jacket to me, I don't want it, and I certainly don't want to have paid £4 for someone to decide if they want it or not. Fit is so random and so many things are over-sized these days.

What do I say? I don't want them to report me to eBay.

Unless you specified in your listing that you accept returns then it's unfortunately in their hands.

I would just reply saying unfortunately I don't accept returns sorry.

What did your original listing say about returning? Some listings allow returns within 28 days and others stipulate no returns so if yours allows them (unfortunately) they can send it you back, sorry xx

I bought a pair of jeans the other day. I know from experience the size of this brand/style vary massively (I have two pairs already, apparently the same size but one is massive, I also tried on a pair in a shop the other day and they were even bigger). I bought a smaller size on EBay for this reason - turns out is too small for me but that’s the risk I took buying on Ebay. I might try to sell them on. I don’t think this is your responsibility, I think the buyer has forgotten you’re not an online retailer.

Six of one and half a dozen of the other. She should have asked for the measurements but you should have included them, knowing what a lottery sizing is.

You have the choice of refunding her or letting eBay sort it out - not much more to say.

I think on the listing it normally states 28 days to return. It will be on the buyer to pay for the return p&p and you don’t usually have to refund the original p&p as you have sent the item. I would check with eBay regarding refunds as you may get the fees back if you relist the item.

Check your settings and update your return policy. I don't accept returns if an item doesn't fit, and I put that in the listing.
They can't report you to ebay because you havent done anything wrong. If it doesnt fit, they should sell it on, you aren't a clothes shop. You might find things harder to sell if you don't put the measurements in, but even measurements don't guarantee a good fit.

Thanks everyone - it says no returns in my listing.

Tough luck for the buyer. Not your problem OP and I would t refund or accept a return either.
