If Something I got from ebay has broken, do I have to pay for the replacement part to be sent to me?

I brought a Nicer Dicer thing for my vegetables. The first time I used it to chop an onion it broke- the blade pinged out and bent.
They have just emailed me and said that they are sorry to hear of my problem. They are happy to send a replacement part, but will have to charge me £3.15 for postage. Is this the norm?

This is the first time I have ever brought a faulty item Anyone?

How much was it? If it wasn't a lot in the first place I would just get another one frmo somewhere else. Cheeky buggars, don't give them any more of your money.
Surely thoug, they should send you a brand new slicey dicey thing free of charge or just reimburse you for the one thats broken. Email them and ask them to reimburse you as it has broken on the first use.

It only cost £5.99 but the postage was only £4.75 for the whole thing. If I say I want a refund do I have to pay postage to send it back?

What is their policy on refunds? It should say on their site.
It shouldnt have broken the first time you used it. It was obviously faulty in the first place. YOu should send them an email just saying it broke on the first use, you would like a full refund, and see what they say.
The main point is here that you have paid them for a new item and it is faulty but they are trying to charge you for postage. Insist they send you the part free of charge. If they dig their heels in then you will have to contact ebay. I think if you go to the help topic and type in something like 'item arrived but has broken' there should be some info. But before you do that email the seller, tell the myou aren't happy and you want the part sent free of charge.

Have you got a link to the site?

If you look at their feedback there are lots of the same people who have brought the same items. This is more than once. Should I smell a rat?

A full one year warranty on their products, and it doesnt even last one day. Request a refund or that they send you another dicer or the part free of charge and see what they say. A product should not break doing the job it is meant for the first time you use it. It's covered for a year so they should send you the part free of charge.

bananaknickers · 21/12/2007 22:22

Ok I am gonna do it now. Thanks. I will let you know what they say.

I have emailed this

The reason that I brought this product from yourselves is that you offer a full one years warranty. It does not state on your listing that if an item is fauly then the buyer pays for replacements postage. I would like you to send me the replacement free of charge. This has broken and is faulty. It has broken when being used for the purpose it was sold for, on the first use. If you are not happy to do this would you kindly refund me the whole amount. It is the small cutting blade , that needs to be replaced.

Many thanks

Yeah, that sounds fine. If they get shirty with you just contact ebay customer services, they are usually quite helpful. Keep me posted.

bananaknickers · 21/12/2007 22:37

arh, thanks for your help lazawreath

Well here is the reply

Our warranty is a return and replace warranty similar to all high street and online merchants. We are unusual on eBay in offering a warranty at these deeply discounted prices.

As a gesture of goodwill we will send you a small blade out.

The blade is in a sealed unit.I have told them this. We will see

'We are unusual on eBay in offering a warranty at these deeply discounted prices.'

That's because you're products are crap and they break the first time people use them!!!
Don't say that to them though!

Personally,I would send them another email stating that you didnt realise deeply discounted goods meant that the goods didnt work properly, and then i would ask for a complete refund on the item and the postage. I would also give them a deadline by which to refund you or you will be contacting ebay customer services and trading standards. I think they are taking the p*ss to be honest.

A gesture of goodwill! For sending you a faulty product and then asking you to pay postage! Cheeky feckers
