I used to be an avid eBay seller but as others have noted it's not what it used to be - full of chancers and time wasters now not to mention eBay's ridiculous anti-seller policies?

However I've got some items that would really be worth selling - they're "branded" items (though not high end designer) like Zoe Karsson, Unique Vintage etc in mint condition that I just can't bear to give away on Olio or Facebook Marketplace.

So I'm considering Depop or Vinted. Does anyone have any advice? How do they differ from eBay? Are they more fair to sellers?

I scrolled back to see if this query had been posted before but couldn't see anything.

Depop is similar in that it takes a fee for selling
Depop I find is much better for youth / Y2K / 90’s / retro sportswear etc - basically on trend stuff that the cool kids wear

Vinted does not charge the seller at all, instead the buyer pays a fee.
Also on Vinted the seller doesn’t receive the money until the buyer has received the item and manually marked it as received.
This can be a PITA if the buyer leaves it ages and you need the money , id say in my experience, I have to chase up buyers to mark as received in about 5-10% of sales

I personally treat Vinted like a big online car boot sale , lots of bargains to be had from as little as £1 , I love buying as well as selling.
I clear out stuff on Vinted that hasn’t sold on eBay or Depop
On Vinted once the buyer marks as received the money drips into your Vinted balance , you can either withdraw to your bank account straight away or what I like to do is let it build up to say a round number like £50 then transfer over.

I’ve found customer service on Vinted excellent

Years ago my main selling platform was EBay but it’s really dwindled away now
I like Vinted but need to sell at much lower prices as everyone is after a bargain

I hate that you can’t set an end date on Vinted like you can on EBay, so the stuff just sits around in your house til it sells. I like to have a clear out and know it will either be sold or on its way to charity in 7 days max.

Also when my printer was broken I had issues with people choosing Hermes for delivery and it expecting me to print their label. But I think I managed to switch that option off.
