Is this a chancer? What would you do?

Listed a toy just over a week ago. Lots of watchers but just one bid at asking price.

Auction finished and no payment so sent a reminder couple of days later and received a message today saying

“Other people bid so I stopped and I don’t know why my bid is the highest and anyway it’s too much money for me so I need to cancel”

There is much time left for me to relist and be sure of a sale and timely posting for Christmas. And because their story doesn’t stack up I’m inclined to refuse a cancellation, even though I’ve done it in the past.

Apart from anything else, this buyer would have been invoiced as soon as they won and said nothing for two days.

What would you do?

As regards to your bought item, do a item not arrived ask for a refund It's past the two week period
eBay will act on that

@MeridianB

Ok - so I should wait for that?
Yes, you need to choose 'Buyer hasn't paid' so that you definitely get your fees back (so you don't pay twice)

When is the fifth day?

MeridianB · 06/12/2021 16:51

Thanks tyranny and all - very helpful to not feel totally alone with these situations!

Cancel with the reason buyer requested, relist as a buy in now, block idiot buyer and then report them to eBay.

MeridianB · 06/12/2021 16:57

5th day would be Thursday.

Ok so do it Thursday and ignore any requests of theirs to list it as another reason. Don't forget to block them too....

Strange turn of events. Buyer has paid.

Strange turn of events. Buyer has paid.
Grin In that case, I would always assume this type of buyer might be trouble. I would take LOTS of close up photos, all angles and make sure there is nothing that can be questioned and I would also send it signed for/tracked even if they didn’t pay for that service - don’t forget to add the tracking number to the listing asap - jic. Cover all your bases as best you can.

If you select “buyer asked to cancel”, they will still get a strike. I’m not sure how many of these a buyer needs to get before eBay take action against them.

Thelnebriati · 08/12/2021 12:23

Loads unfortunately, they need 2 in the last year before you can use it as a way to block them. And they can still contact you to complain you;ve blocked them on those grounds so Ebay must tell them thats why they can't bid. Confused

Annoyingly I have my first buyer wants to cancel, all well and good but you don't get your fixed selling fee back ( only 37p ) but still. It's frustrating.
