Autumn clear-out to generate funds for Christmas anyone ?

Having smashed my summer target I'm restarting with listing autumn/winter clothes (I've already shifted a couple of the kids outgrown dressing gowns plus 3 outgrown hoodies) and possible Christmas gift items.

Target is £500 again (after expenses) but I do have a big-ticket item which I'm hoping will raise the best part of £100. Aiming to raise it by the end of November if possible.

If you've got kids you need a clear-out of outgrown toys as and clothes if only to make way for the Christmas gifts they will inevitably receive.

Anyone up for it ?

I'm ready to join you
I've made a start with a few thing I had already earmarked but it's been horrible - buyers complaining about trivia, posting problems, new payment system etc, etc
How are you getting on?

Same here - I had a brilliant clear out last time; this time all I'm getting is demands to let stuff go cheaply. I also got neutral feedback on an item that the Post Office lost and the buyer had been refunded for Hmm

Thelnebriati · 06/10/2021 10:32

I took the grand total of £4.15p this week - I think that works out to 36p per email Grin

Had a flurry of reasonable prices on the kids old school coats and some Halloween costumes/Christmas themed clothing (PJ's/Onesies/jumpers). It's mostly kids clothes I have listed now plus some unused Christmas gift items.

I'm listing stuff at the minimum price I'd accept for an item. Some are just selling at that but at least I'm not having stuff go for 99p etc. Have at least had a couple of bidding wars making 2 items sell for more that I ever expected but we're still only talking £10 instead of £5 for an item.

Looking forward to having space freed up most of all.

Bugger. What happened to being able to report non payers ?

Buyer has won but then sent a request to cancel transaction - no random "my kids hamster ran across the keyboard and pressed the button" excuse, nothing...

I can opt to decline their request but presumably they'll leave me negative feedback if I do.

Bizarrely it's the second time this item has sold and the the winning bidder (different person 2nd time) wouldn't pay up. First person just didn't pay and I couldn't find a "report non paying bidder" option to click on so I just cancelled/re-listed it. This time it's a request to cancel the transaction.

I didnt know they could do that, plus you cant leave negative feedback for buyers so thats pants.

wormthatturned · 09/10/2021 12:29

Well, I’m discovering all sorts that I’ve never needed before. Had my first negative feedback removed (not nice after a receiving a stream of offensive emails from the buyer in question), now having to offer return/ refund as a buyer says damaged even though the item is virtually indestructible and I don’t offer returns!
I’ve sold a couple of hundred of other things over the last 15 years without any of this grief. Is it just that everyone is fed up and grumpy about life at the moment?

Thelnebriati · 10/10/2021 11:35

It does seem worse at the moment. I don't know how many people you can block but I must be getting close to my limit Grin

Grin Grin Grin

To be fair, the odd annoying buyer is nothing compared to the amount I've been messed about when offering stuff for free on the local "free stuff" facebook page.

This is amazing (dodgy buyers aside). I never have any luck selling on Ebay or gumtree - I tend to list bundles of kids' clothing. Do you list items individually?

Reptar · 12/10/2021 20:49

If it was an expensive or branded item in mint condition I'd try it separately, if it didn't sell I'd put it in a small bundle.
I always list the condition as worse than it is, and say its got small marks and flaws even if I can't see any.

fairisledog · 13/10/2021 12:43

I'm starting to get more "watchers" on ebay now and a couple of things I've been repeatedly relisting since April have just sold. I have over 100 listings running at the moment. It just shows that it may take time but eventually someone will be looking for what you're wanting to offload. I'll just leave the summer clothing on there until next year. I've done the hard work listing it this year but it can probably go back in a bag in the the loft for the time being.

Halloween costumes/masks are selling well because Amazon have just inflated their prices in the run up to the event so second hand is an attractive alternative. I listed a reasonable condition teen sized "scary animal" onesie as a potential Halloween costume and it's sold for almost as much as it cost some years ago (well it was only Primark Grin). At least someone will be toasty warm whilst out trick or treating.

Some good condition outgrown coats and hoodies/fleece tops have watchers so I think they'll all sell fairly soon.

All this stuff in the media about toys/gifts imports being delayed/held up might make people look online for a guarantee of getting something. If you've got unopened/unwanted gifts you may as well list them (if you're not already thinking of re-gifting them Wink)

How's it going fellow fund raisers ?

My ebay sales have ground to a halt.

I need to list more stuff but work/home life is really busy so I'm just not getting time.

Haven't totted up for a while due to lack of time also.
