Etiquette re: selling item on

I bought a top from ebay. It was too big. So I sold it on. I only just about covered what I'd paid for it. Anyway, I got given feedback with a remark about how I'd bought it just to sell it on.

Should I have messaged the original seller before listing it?

No, once bought and paid for you can do what you like with your item.
Non of their business unless you wanted a refund/return.

Thanks, I was wondering if I'd broken some sort of unwritten code!

You could post a follow up to the comment. Something like 'didn't fit me'

ChickpeaCrunch · 25/08/2021 14:06

Ah I didn't know I could do that. I've already left their review, should have mentioned it then really.

Thanks @1987qwerty. Didn't want it to cause any issues with future potential buyers/sellers.

You did absolutely nothing wrong. (And even if you had bought to sell on, also nothing wrong with that either!)

ChickpeaCrunch · 25/08/2021 14:35

Thanks, yes I did wonder what why they seemed a bit funny as people buy to sell on all the time!

Good grief, if I was the original seller I would just be so pleased to have the item gone! Some people, eh?

ChickpeaCrunch · 25/08/2021 15:09

I know right! They have the money! And the only other people who have benefited are royal mail, ebay and the person who bought it off me!

Does that mean they followed what you did with it then?

Found out that as a seller you cannot leave -ve feedback for a buyer.

But no, no code broken.

Now if you'd claimed it had not arrived; got a refund under the money back guarantee then sold on then yes, you'd be entitled to some severe bad feedback. !!!

ChickpeaCrunch · 25/08/2021 19:20

@LizzieMacQueen aah that's why it was positive feedback. I don't know how they saw it, I did try it on the same day and then went into the listing and did "sell one like this" and put my own pictures in. Maybe when they left their feedback they could see what I was selling? TBH I'm still quite new at ebay which is why I was worried I'd broken a rule!

Oh and yes agree, anything like that sounds well dodgy!

Weird that they followed up what you did with it. I can understand them being a bit disgruntled if you’d sold it on for lots more than you paid but not if you sold it for about the same. Surely that’s better for the original seller than you trying to get a refund from them.

ChickpeaCrunch · 25/08/2021 19:49

Maybe they left the feedback before I sold it so couldn't see how much it went for? I did put it on for more than what I paid for it as I wanted to cover ebay fees and postage so I wasn't out if pocket. I don't know, it felt odd to me that they'd bother but again, I'm new to this. I imagine there must be loads of reselling?

Ridiculous of buyer. They may have been watching the item and then saw it was sold. You can do an advanced search on completed items and see what they sold for.

No-one is forcing any buyer to buy anything from ebay. If they don't like the thought that someone is making money then they should go to the shops/online store and buy from there and make someone else much more money.!!I

Paras777 · 03/09/2021 17:35

I've resold items that didn't fit me many times. What else can I do if no returns are allowed? Grin It's totally reasonable to put up the price to cover all the fees. I've also seen people buy my items and then list them at a large (like £50) profit but all I think is "good for them" because I don't have space to keep unsuccessful eBay purchases until someone pays high enough for me to make a big profit Grin

SquirryTheSquirrel · 03/09/2021 17:38

AFAIK the only point of etiquette is not to use the original seller's photos.
