eBay designer necklace

Tempnamechange123 · 18/07/2021 21:51

I sold a branded diamond and sterling silver necklace on eBay for £100. It was new in box, never worn, although several years old so it was slightly discoloured and needed polishing. This was all on the listing.

She now says her jeweller said there’s a flaw on part of the pendant which they can fix for £50. She’s asking me if I will contribute towards the repair. I can’t see any flaw on pics she’s sent.

Where do I stand? It’s past 30 days since purchase.

I’d rather not give her any money back as think she got a bargain anyway. I rarely sell anything so don’t mind negative feedback if that’s the alternative.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Nah, you don’t need to do anything.

Tempnamechange123 · 18/07/2021 22:01

Should I even reply to her?

Sounds like she's trying it on. After 30 days she could well have broken it herself.

I would say no as it's past the 30 day threshold, but be aware that if she genuinely feels there's a problem, and raises a claim, eBay take the buyer's side in 99.9% of cases.

19lottie82 · 18/07/2021 23:01

How did you receive the payment? Was it directly to your bank, or via PayPal? If the latter then they could make a claim via PayPal. If it was a direct payment then they have up to 30 days after the latest delivery estimate.

If a direct payment and out with the time frame, I’d just ignore her.

Tempnamechange123 · 19/07/2021 12:41

I’m not sure if it was PayPal or direct payment, how would I know? I believe eBay pay me direct into my bank account now if that’s what you mean?

If it came into your bank account directly then it’s a direct payment, which is good. That removes the layer of PayPal protection for the buyer.
As long as you’re over thirty days part the latest delivery estimate, you can just ignore.

cookiesandcreamm · 19/07/2021 21:44

She's trying it

Gemma2019 · 19/07/2021 21:55

I wouldn't even acknowledge the email or reply to her.

Tempnamechange123 · 19/07/2021 21:57

I replied and said I was unable to offer partial refund. She said she’d open a case so I asked to see the email from the jeweller as proof. She forwarded a pic but it wasn’t the whole email and she has censored a lot of the info. The email address was from Tiffany but she had scrubbed out the first part of the address and refuses to provide it. I just assumed it would have been from a customer services email but now I’m wondering if she knows somebody who works there maybe and it’s not genuine? Why would you not just give their name?! She’s now saying she’ll raise a case and will provide eBay the proof. So stressful! Does the 30 days only apply to raising return requests? As she did email me within the 30 days to say that she believed there was a flaw (not that there’s any proof of this!)

Ask her to return it for a full refund. You can then resell it.

PatchworkElmer · 19/07/2021 22:26

Just ask her to return it.

Theworldisquiethere · 19/07/2021 22:29

It belongs to her now so not your responsibility at all

blinkthreetimes · 19/07/2021 22:29

Even if she opens a case you simply call eBay and say “its past 30 days, please close the case”
Don’t entertain or engage in any conversation.
Past 30 days means she doesn’t have a leg to stand on

blinkthreetimes · 19/07/2021 22:30

And do not ask her to return it!
You don’t need to do anything. You don’t even need to reply.

IdblowJonSnow · 19/07/2021 22:36

If you ask her to return it she may damage it.
I think she's trying it on personally.
I've sold something on Ebay once and got scammed! Never again.

milkytwilight · 19/07/2021 22:43

To all those saying past 30 days.. I thought ebay buyer protection for "item not as described" was covered upto 180 days? Or at least it used to be.

blinkthreetimes · 19/07/2021 22:46

@milkytwilight

That’s PayPal. eBay is strictly 30 days

milkytwilight · 19/07/2021 22:48

Yep just seen! Thanks

GreyhoundG1rl · 19/07/2021 22:49

@Tempnamechange123

Should I even reply to her?
No.
GreyhoundG1rl · 19/07/2021 22:50

Oh. You have...

Tempnamechange123 · 19/07/2021 22:53

I know, I’m regretting replying now! Thanks all for the advice. I won’t engage any further with her.

OP posts:
justasmalltownmum · 19/07/2021 23:03

If it is more than 30 days, just leave her.

19lottie82 · 21/07/2021 18:43

Ask her to return it for a full refund

Absolutely no need to do this, she doesn’t have any rights here. Ignore, ignore, ignore.

thriftyhen · 21/07/2021 18:52

It's past the 30 days, so there is nothing that you can do. Make certain you put her on your blocked buyers list just in case she causes you any trouble on anything else you might sell.
