Seller refusing to sell to me.

Never come across this before.

I saw an item with a buy it now price or make an offer. I made an offer £2 below the buy it now price (£12) and it was rejected. Fine, no issue with that at all. I left it a couple of days and decided that I would buy it anyway and bought it at the buy it now price and paid immediately. They are now refusing to send me the item as I 'insulted' them by making an offer. They still haven't refunded me either. I had someone offer me £2 for a £15 item but I just rejected the offer and thought they were a chancer but that's it!

I've been in touch with eBay but I just wondered if anyone else has come across similar bat-shittery?

They are very wrong to keep your money.
I have to admit, in my DH's business we occasionally we get a customer who comes across as a bit more trouble then the job is worth. If this is the case then we will refuse to quote or withdraw the quote, but would never hold on to their money.

I didn't really answer your question did I, I just replied with an anecdote.
Ebay is full of CF and arseholes. There really is very little protection against fraud. We purchased a £500 item and as soon as the money was transferred, by PayPal, the communications ended. Neither PayPal nor Ebay were prepared to help us get our money back, each just kept telling us we should chase via the other.

Thats shocking! I've heard some tales before but I only ever buy/sell clothes and pretty cheap items and never come across any issues at all until now.

I just don't feel like I insulted them - I'm not sure why they would have the option to send an offer if they would be so cross that it wasn't up to their expectations that they would refuse to sell to me. Ebay is a bit of a game I suppose but blimey, I would never try to insult someone.

Some people are just grumpy.

Quite a few enable offers, but don’t really want offers or don’t understand the offer process (for example they expect to just get higher offers - but that’s what an eBay auction is)

A seller should set their offer limits, so that the system rejects offers that are too low. But eBay won’t allow you to set the minimum too close to the starting price

£2 below asking price is not an insult - and it’s an obvious figure to expect (a buyer would go for a good round number such as £10 from a £12 asking price)
If that’s insulting then they should have not ticked for offers

If you have not done so, raise an item not sent dispute as you have a sales contract with them
It can still end up with them refusing to sell to you but will be a strike against their sellers account

When you add 'best offer' to your listing you are able to set the minimum offer that sellers can make; so if they consider the amount you offered insulting, its their fault.

You will get your money back and they'll get a black mark, but it will take a few weeks. Make sure you add them to your block list because people like that sometimes come to your shop and buy an item just to be a PITA.

I don’t understand why some sellers offer ‘make an offer’ and then get offended.

Report him to eBay and leave negative feedback.

I’ve won items with a cheeky ask so why wouldn’t you try if best offer is on the table?

I bought an item for a snip at the end of an auction. Super smashing great.

Unfortunately they cancelled without as much as a by your leave. I fully expect to see the item relisted with a higher start price.

Their refund is showing as pending but I’m still tempted to leave negative feedback due to lack of explanation.

I smell shenanigans.

If they relist, report the seller to ebay AND leave -ve feedback - you have to "show hidden" items in your purchase history to see cancelled items.
