Technically marketplace. But feeling anxious.

So, I sold a large flat screen LCD tv on Facebook marketplace. It was an older model so it was a bit heavier and no HD but I put it on at a reasonable price for its age. Had it a while for our main living room TV but got a new one (slimmer, lighter, bigger and more features that the old one was missing).
It's too big for a bedroom in my opinion so we decided to sell it. Cleaned it up.
Put it online with a very accurate and detailed description.

Someone messages almost immediately with a very long sob story and hoping I can "help them out". I said no, price is firm. They then offer me a low offer. I said, again, price is firm, it had only been online a few hours and I was willing to wait for a better offer.
They offer me the asking price and are at my house to collect within 20 minutes.
Let them see it working until they are satisfied, cash exchanged for TV, off they go.
All a bit strange, including the weird unnecessary sob story. But fine.

20 hours after collection they say they want to return it as its faulty. They said it was fine for 30 minutes but then says its turns off every minute now and won't stay on.
I know it was working when they left. I've said no, they've had it nearly a day, they had full access to check it's condition and working before purchase. And quite frankly I have no idea what's happened with it since it left my house. Dropped? Spilled something on it? Just plain set it up wrong?
So I've said no. But I feel anxious. They know where I live and don't seem happy. They said they'll get the police involved, to which I said I wouldn't have anything against that as I want it resolved and don't want to be blamed for any wrong doing when I haven't done any.
I think they have buyers remorse to be honest because they were very hard work and really didn't want to pay asking price, but did in the end. Though I wasn't in a real rush to sell so I would have waited for another buyer.

What would you have done?

'I don't sell on FB marketplace so IDK if you can block people from buying without blocking their FB account, so look into that.

I won't sell to anyone that looks like they might be hard work.

If they email me in advance with a sob story, demand a discount or whatever, I won't deal with them. I've never had a transaction end well if it starts off that way.

I always have a way to tell if a customer returns a different item. They don't have any legal right to return the TV but that doesn't mean they wont be a PITA. Consumer Rights and private sellers.

If you purchase items from a private seller...you don't have any consumer rights. For the Consumer Rights Act to apply you need to be an individual making a purchase from a business.

If you do buy a second-hand item from a private individual it only has to match any advertised description.

A private seller isn't under any obligation to tell you about any faults or defects, and there's no requirement for the item to be of satisfactory quality or suitable for any specific purpose.

So, as you may have heard, purchasing from a private seller is a matter of 'buyer beware'. You should check the product thoroughly to ensure you are 100% happy before buying it.'

Oh dammit, that was supposed to be one short quote. Sorry!

Sound like they're trying it on.

If you know it was working when you sold it, just block them on FB.

Police won't get involved.

They COULD try a small claims court action, but it's their word against yours and besides - they're not going to risk the costs in order to recover such a small sum.

I doubt they'll make anything of it, but if they DO turn up at your home, CALL the police immediately.
