Why would you bid £x.99 for something?

For example someone has just bid £6.99 on one of my auctions. They were outbid. It looks like I'm shill bidding on my own auctions. I've noticed it a lot lately.

See here

Is it something to do with increments? It looks like they've actually bid that amount though. Surely you'd bid £x.03 or even just £x.00?

People bid all weird amounts, if your not shill bidding then don't worry.

Luckily every time it's happened lately, it's been somebody with quite a bit of feedback. And different people have done it on different auctions, which hopefully makes it look less suspicious.

I bid odd amounts most of the time - if the listing ends, the highest bid gets it or the first bid. If you both bid eg £5.50, the first one gets it. If one bid £5.50 and the other £5.52, the higher bid wins. So there is a sort of logic there... (And I do have 100% positive feedback )

I bid odd amounts, buit would always bid £7.02 rather than £6.99 in the hope of outbidding a £7 offer.

x.99 bidding just seems... odd

Yes, I can understand the bidding .52 or .03, but to bid .99 is almost bidding to lose, hence it looks like shill bidding. V.strange. Perhaps keyboard error? They did bid later on again for £14.00
