Waiting until funds are transferred from paypal before posting?

Is this standard? I bought something last week, paid by paypal within 24 hours, and got an email today saying that her account is limited "for verification purposes", and once they sort it out, she can transfer the funds, and post the item.

She's a newish seller, and I've been polite in my reply (and it's not urgent, and anyway I think it's coming by royal mail, so it will take forever anyway) ... but I'm just wondering if this is standard.

I don't know from your viewpoint and I've never really sold anything using my paypal until this weekend. Now I've had 3 emails from paypal

  • funds transferred
  • transaction cancelled
  • funds confirmed

So from my pov as seller, I'm not posting anything until I know I have the money. That kind of seems fair enough, don't you think? I mean, if she doesn't know you it seems sensible of her to wait until she has the money before she posts although she might have told you if her paypal was not fully set up yet so you knew in advance there would be a delay.

She shouldn't do this. She should post the fnds as soon as they hit her paypal account not her bank account. I'd be annoyed tbh

NotQuiteCockney · 22/10/2007 09:35

Well, I know that buyers can do a chargeback on their credit card pretty much any time, even after the funds have hit her bank account. I know that sellers don't have much protection on paypal.

That being said, I do have 26 feedback as a buyer, all of it good - presumably if I was Evil, I would have some bad feedback (or withdrawn, or whatever) by now!

I am slightly annoyed - if she doesn't get it sorted in a few days, I may well email again to her to moan about it. There wasn't any warning that this might be a problem, but, to be fair, I did notice she was a new ebayer, but figured, as she's accepting paypal, that I wasn't taking much of a risk.

oh right, i didn't realise she had received the funds but wanted to transfer to her account.. i seeeee. no she should def. post as soon as the funds have arrived in her paypal account..

NotQuiteCockney · 22/10/2007 14:24

I've asked her to tell me when she posts - I paid on Thursday, so if she doesn't post by Thursday, I'll ask her to get a move on, I guess.

Thing is, I have another item I bought earlier in the month, it was posted on the 11th or something (ebay shop), and I still don't have it, thanks to the Royal Mail faff. Grrr.

i'm still waiting for something from the 10th, and a customer is waiting for something from me from 11th

The woman is taking the piss though - it takes 5 days to show in her account after she has done the transfer, so presumably she needs another week on top???

Oh, I hope she isn't waiting for the other 5 days, that would really suck.

I'll hassle her on Thursday - she at least took the initiative and emailed me to explain what was going on, before I asked her anything.

Oh, and I know the post is buggered, our local post is crap. Someone on here was saying that the posties weren't taking out anything too big to fit through a letterbox right now, hence the delay. (Although the parcel I'm waiting for should be in a big envelope, I think ...)

Oh, and I had OU course materials come out today, they were posted on the 5th according to the OU website.

At least they came.

sellers should post as soon as the money hits their paypal account. they can't make you wait until they have transferred, let alone until their bank clears it.
Sellers have only 7 days to post otherwise they lose their seller protection. check these details before you quote them (I'm very tired)

there are times (like now actually) when I wish I could wait until the paypal money hits my bank - but I can't, it's not allowed, it's not the done thing...etc

TheQueenOfQuotes · 22/10/2007 17:37

I have done that in the past - BUT if I know that I'm not going to have the money to post something then I've always put in the listing that I will post once funds have been transferred from my Paypal to my bank account. Haven't done it often - but when I've sold stuff and I'm actually skint (so therefore don't have any money to post it with) I make sure it's clear in the listing.

NotQuiteCockney · 22/10/2007 17:56

Oh, I hadn't thought she might not be posting due to cash issues. She didn't say that in her message, but that might be her real reason. Well, still, if they're meant to post within 7 days ...

Yip, I agree. A few times I have been short on cash and had to wait until the funds clear but I always let the buyer know. Maybe she is a little embarrassed to say that she has to do that? At least she is keeping in touch to let you know so I don't think it's anything to worry about.
