If you buy two items from the same seller...

What are the ‘rules’?!

I had bought quite a few things last week and didn’t notice two were from the same seller so didn’t ask in advance if they combined postage. When they hadn’t arrived a week later, I messaged to ask when they’d been posted (and maybe gone missing) and noticed two were from the same seller.

They have just arrived and she has changed me £4 for each item for postage, but put them in the same envelope and paid only £3.70!

Is that fine and my own fault for not noticing and asking her to combine the postage prices in advance or is it rather cheeky??

Strictly speaking I’m afraid it is hard luck if you don’t notice you can’t retrospectively get a refund or price difference back
Annoying and I’ve been similarly caught

Ok, thank you.

I just thought that as they charged me for two separate parcels, they should have actually posted them separately! As it is, it feels like they’ve just bunged them in together and pocketed the cash!

I think its cheeky. I did the same thing except I asked the buyer as soon as I had paid to combine postage and got no reply. They combined postage anyway and kept the money. I thought about mentioning it in the feedback but ultimately decided to just leave it and not give any feedback at all.

SentientAndCognisant · 25/11/2020 21:41

Yes I’m afraid so, they’ve pocketed the difference. V annoying
I’ve had same thing, stared at the one wee envelope I’d paid double postage on
I don’t think there’s anything you can really do, but hell it’s annoying

Well strictly speaking if they cannot provide proof of postage for 2 items then you can submit an item not received claim for the 2nd item. EBay will refund you because they won't be able to prove they sent both in one parcel. They made 2 separate agreements with you and have only fulfilled one. That's why combined postage must be done prior to payment and as a separate combined invoice

@thenewaveragebear1983

That's correct. You can say it only had the first item in it, she cant prove it had 2 things and you can get your money refunded.

I would usually advocate for something like that btw! But ebay are quite clear that sellers cannot profit from postage so she should have refunded you for one of the postage costs.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/12/2020 17:01

Personally in that instance I would email the seller and say 'I ordered 2 separate items from you on X date and only one has arrived, could you show me proof of postage please for the second item" and see what they come back with.

I suppose it depends on the value of the items in reality. If you bought 2 x £1 item and paid double postage then I'd push for a refund on the item plus postage cost of item 2. If you got 2 designer dresses at a bargain price and paid £8 postage, I'd cut my losses.

am pretty sure the same proof of posting will be uploaded for both, so OP won't have grounds to formally complain not arrived. I have managed to put the same PoP values up for different parcels to different parcels (by accident).

Can ding their feedback of course. They will block OP then OP won't have to worry about ever buying from them again. Seller won't have to worry about buyer who changes terms of delivery after agreeing to easy to understand contract to buy. Everyone wins.

That is what the yellow stars are for.
Word your feedback carefully and mark the stars down.

However, I would contact them first and give them a chance to refund some of the postage, if they are arsey give them a neg as well.

I have had this happen to me. I would message the seller.

Others have given some great advice too. I hope it can be resolved.

I would contact them first and ask for a refund. Then depending on what they do, leave feedback accordingly.
