I've been selling a few bits on Ebay recently and so far it has all been going smoothly, however I've just had one of my buyers message me and I was wondering if anyone had any advice/ could tell me how Ebay are likely to side.

Sold an item back in the summer hols, sent as a signed for parcel. Job done, didn't hear anything until 6 weeks later, buyer contacts me as they haven't received parcel, I directed them to tracking and looked myself. Item had been taken to their local PO as there had been no answer on delivery. Item sat in PO for 4 weeks and was then sent go re-delivey centre as a return to sender status.

As far as I can see it is still at the centre. Buyer wants a full refund, including postage. I've said I will give them the item price when I receive the item but not the postage as it's not my fault they didn't pick the parcel up in a timely manner.

Anyway the buyer is not happy with this, if they go to ebay and I likely to be out of pocket for the item and postage? Is it worth me contacting ebay to deal with or is that more likely to go against me?

Really frustrating that I might be out of pocket because the buyer didn't get themselves down to the post office or even let me know there was an issue before it was too late!

It's not fair and I'd be pissed off but eBay tend to side with buyers so I think you'll have to refund Sad

Thanks @saynotodietcoke I thought so but it is annoying! Do you think I'll have to refund the postage as well?

It's so frustrating because you can easily demonstrate that you did everything right and the blame lies with them not collecting it. It might be worth letting it go to resolution centre and putting your case forward but I think ultimately you'll be encouraged to pay the full amount back Sad

I would not refund yet. Say you have proof of postage and tracking therefore not your fault they have not received. Let them raise a case with ebay. As you have proof of postage with tracking details., Ebay should side with you. If ebay side with buyer, then unfortunately not much you can do but refund, but I would wait to see if that happens first.

I was recently told by eBay that’s once it’s over 60 days it doesn’t matter what happens, they can’t raise a case against you. In fact I think that has to be done within 30 days, and then there is 30 days to sort it out?

Before we all blame the buyer for not collecting. Its not beyond the realms of possibility the postie didnt leave them a note.

What might happen if they are still able to open a case is that they get the money off you and you claim the money back off the postoffice by presenting the sale invoice and proof it was not delivered or returned.

@dawnlassie I would have sympathy if I thought the postie hadnt left a note however, the buyer was really evasive when I asked and they didn't contact me for six weeks. Surely if you've ordered something and paid for signed for delivery you would chase it up before that long? I feel like they changed their mind and are just trying to get their money back. Oh well, you win some...

Put that in your evidence if they raise a case. You might get lucky. If not then claim the loss off the postoffice if it isnt returned.
