I ordered a shoe storage cupboard on EBAY, It said it was from a UK seller but it appears not to have come from the UK.
It was terrible quality when it arrived but I was going suck it up because it looks nice and I needed something for my shoes.
However it broke after about 2 hours! - I opened the door to put the shoes in and went to close it and it broke and the door comes off.
I have started a return claim and they are offering me 38% refund (I paid £39.99). I am not happy with this as although you can still use it in sum way, I wanted the shoes hidden and without a door that obviously can't happen.
I have 2 days to wait for Ebay to step in (30th),
Do you think I have a leg to stand on with getting a refund?

Here is a quote from the latest message
"Dear customer , pls kindly understand we indeed have little profit for the item, we sell the reasonable price in ebay, you can have a check again,. as returning will cost much postage on shipping, I think it is not the best way to solve this problem, how about this? if you can keep this one or resell it to others, I would like to offer you 38% refund for this order. is it okay for you?"

You should be able to get a refund. Decline the offer and repeat that it is broken and unusable. Add photos to the dispute, then escalate to Ebay when the process permits.

I find they are generally very quick to refund.

We got a shoe cupboard from Argos, it isn't beautiful but it works.

I had this recently, product sent was nothing like what was pictured and unusable. The seller tried to put me off returning it by telling me that I would have to pay to return it and I would be better off reselling it or giving it as a gift to someone Confused
If you return it as damaged then eBay will likely send you a return label which is prepaid and charged to the seller and you get your refund when they receive it. Should be pretty easy, don't be put off by the seller's pleas, there's tons of sellers like this sending out faulty products then relying on blagging you into keeping it .

From my experience, eBay always refund the money to the buyer with barely any questions asked, so I think you will be fine.

I have had 2 people say they never received their parcels. eBay refunded them ASAP and took the money straight out of my account. Another time someone said that the jacket I had sold was faulty (it wasn't), and eBay took the money straight out of my account again and refunded the person.

I think in general, the buyer is pretty well looked after when things go wrong.

It is a clear not as described item so you should get a full refund with a postage return label if they want it returned. Don't let the seller guilt trap you - if they want to sell shoddy items then they must accept they will have to do refunds on ebay.

Thanks everyone, I am still going around in circles with the seller, It doesn't help they are abroad so I am only getting 1 message in the early hours so it's been dragged out for 5/6 days. eBay can step in tomorrow.
Fingers crossed eBay find in my favour, This is my first case so wasn't sure how likely eBay would help me.
They have tried everything to avoid having to refund me, 30% 38% keep it, sell it, gift it, Guilt me with profits.
Sorry to those who have experienced bad buyers.

ARGH!!
They have decided to accept my return but not before offering me 45% to keep it.
They have also told eBay that they can't give me a returns label. I have to recover the postage back, but I really don't trust them to refund it. What can I do now?

Phone eBay. You'll get far further.
Explain their trying to push you into tiny returns amounts and no postage and no doubt eBay will sort it.
Had it myself with an item, said it was a UK seller, took a month to arrive as was from China (so straight off I wanted to chuck it) then they offered me 5% refund with a message incredibly similar to yours and guilt trips. Called eBay and had my refund within hours and didn't have to return.

CarrieMoonbeams · 30/09/2020 06:38

Let ebay help you OP, honestly don't worry.

I had a similar thing with an interior trim part I bought for my previous car - it specifically said that it came from the UK, and that it would fit the make and model of my car, but both of those things were incorrect.

I had the daft % refunds offered too, I just kept declining as the item was no good to me. EBay stepped in and I was given a full refund.

Thegirlwithnousername · 30/09/2020 11:10

My DH had a look on eBay, and it shows that the refund is more than the item so I guess eBay has added enough to cover postage onto it.
I have booked a courier to pick it up and return it, I have taken out the cover to £40.00 and a signature on delivery just to be on the safe side, I think they will just try everything not to give me the money back.
So fingers crossed.

If you speak to Ebay it is likely that you will get a refund without returning it, I realise it might be too late now.

Often when the seller doesn't want it back because they know it is crap and will be no use they try it on. Often you can also get a refund without returning it if the photos you provide to Ebay show what shite it is.

If it is listed as being in the UK, you can report it if it isn't. It is not permitted to falsify item location. This might also get you a refund without returning.

You may also find it gets returned to you as the address doesn't exist.

Thegirlwithnousername · 01/10/2020 19:01

It has been returned via Hermes with a tracking and signature required. I really don't trust them and like SlopesOff says I am expecting it to be returned to me as the address doesn't exist but then at least I have tried and eBay can deal with it then.
Thanks everyone.

As long as you have entered the tracking into the return you should get a refund.

Hope it goes smoothly.

Thegirlwithnousername · 02/10/2020 21:59

Yes I have added the tracking information into eBay. Fingers crossed.

Update :
After checking with the couriers it keeps being delayed and saying its at the local depot, I got hold of someone eventually and the parcel was refused at the address - This could be because the package arrived damaged, Anyways it's on it's way back to me and should be with me within 24/48hours.
I got email to call me and it was resolved very quickly, I am getting a full refund.
Thanks for all the help.
