I sold two identical items, sent them via Royal Mail 2nd class. Somehow one has been broken (cast iron and were well wrapped so obviously been lobbed about) I've filled in a Royal Mail compensation claim and offered the buyer a 50% refund.
Are Royal Mail likely to compensate me for 100% or 50% or even at all. What would you normally offer the buyer? I asked if he wanted to wait until Royal Mail compensate but he said it is likely to be outside e-bay's refund window.

I think it’s unlikely Royal Mail will refund you at all, I’m afraid.

But you should refund the buyer 50%. After all, they weren’t to blame for the damage.

Thanks Casually that's what I offered. It just seemed reasonable to offer 100% if Royal Mail were likely to offer reimbursement but if they don't it's safer to give back 50%

I've now just had this reply... so I read that as now have to offer a full refund and ask them to return the unbroken item and I have to pay two lots of postage.

"Hi, I've always used royal mail and been refund every time.
Hermes I've always had problems with and never been paid at a cost of £100's.
I only use hermes if its unbreakable...
I'll go through ebay and do a claim.
Thinking about it now i don't really want just the 1 dish as its no good to 2 people.
Thanks anyway

That’s a shame. I guess if it’s technically a pair, your buyer has a good point that keeping one isn’t an option.
