Would you buy an iPhone 11 from EBay?

I need a new phone as mine is dying and needs a new screen & battery.

The camera on the new IPhones is so amazing, but I don't want to pay £50 a month for a phone forever.

I'm locked into IPhones as I use a MacBook Pro and iMac for home/work.

Would I be a fool to try and buy an IPhone 11 Pro off eBay?

I have bought and sold much cheaper phones on eBay before, but obviously this is a much bigger purchase.

LovelyWeekAway · 25/07/2020 15:46

No I wouldn’t.
Phones and particularly I phones are main scamming items

I recently bought a Samsung s10 via a seller, did my research etc. As people above have said check out feedback, how long they have been in ebay etc

keepingbees · 27/07/2020 16:19

I wouldn't personally, if you do then be really careful who you're buying from as others have said.
I recommend CEX if you've got a branch near you (or you might be able to buy online from their website I'm not sure.) They sell with a years warranty and I've never had a problem with any used item from there.

AwkwardAsAllGetout · 27/07/2020 16:22

Yes I would as long as you do your research at going prices and carefully consider the seller. New sellers with low feedback no way, but an established seller? No problem. PayPal will protect you should things go wrong. I also second the CEX recommendation, I think their warranty is actually 2 years which is brilliant, they took back a console that developed a fault after my ds had played with constantly just shy of two years, and exchanged it without question.

I would think a lot of stolen phones end up on eBay. When we were burgled the police told me to search eBay for our items.

Ernieshere · 27/07/2020 16:52

No

Hairthrowaway · 27/07/2020 16:54

Do you need one right now? Because if you wait until early September (6/7 weeks?) the next iPhone will be released and the 11 pro will reduce in price. It’s currently the latest flagship release so most retailers have it priced highly and will refuse to discount it, but that will imminently change once the 12 is out.

For sellers though, not buyers! As a buyer if you’re scammed, you’ll get your money back.

Gingerkittykat · 27/07/2020 16:59

There are sellers who specialise in selling refurbished phones, I have bought off one of them before as they had a lot of positive feedback but I wouldn't buy from a random seller.

Whenwillthisbeover · 29/07/2020 19:51

I buy all my iPhones from eBay, but only reconditioned ones from good sellers, never had a problem. They are All like new, immaculate.

I wouldn’t buy from a private seller.

Whenwillthisbeover · 29/07/2020 19:52

Amazon reconditioned are good too.

TheFlis12345 · 29/07/2020 19:54

Amazon have verified resellers, my SIL bought one from there and it looks brand new but cost 30% less than in the shops. I would trust Amazon more to sort it out if something went wrong.

FredaFox · 29/07/2020 20:02

No way, too risky

I got my iPhone11 direct from the Apple store, £36 a month on interest free

TheHighestSardine · 29/07/2020 20:07

Yes - but only from a seller with a long history who does professional refurb items.

Never buy a current generation device from a non-professional seller, it's either stolen (and in the case of an iPhone therefore a brick) or a scam in waiting.
