Photos and Description don't match item

Hi I've sold a games console.

We hadn't used it for years and I wasn't sure what (if any) bits were missing so I took and posted 12 photos of everything that was included all laid out so they knew it exactly what they were getting. I didn't know at this point that anything was missing but I wanted to cover my back.

It sold for £21.00 plus postage £6.50

The seller who purchased first bidded on 11 June

I have anxiety so kept thinking if there was a piece missing I wouldn't like the hassle so i looked on eBay for similar items.

I edited the description
On 13-Jun-20 at 21:47:59 BST, seller added the following information:
I think there might be the main plug / adapter missing. You can buy separately.

And again
On 13-Jun-20 at 21:48:57 BST, seller added the following information:
Ac Power Adapter missing

13 and 16th they increased their bids.

I realise these were probably automatic and they wouldn't have felt they needed to re read the description.

This morning I've recurved this message:

When I placed the bid, there was nothing about missing power adapter, now I can see that you ve added this on the 13th July. Nevertheless I was not aware of that when I placed the bid. The console is of no use to me without the power adapter and just checked online the adapters for this console are not available a compatible one would cost in the region of £10 and I am not happy to pay extra for that. I would like to return the item please.

After receiving it they obviously went to check the description.

I know this isn't relevant and If I'm in the wrong don't matter yet my eBay score is 2488 and I have100% Feedback. I sell everyday and I've never come across this issue.

I feel like replying to say sold as seen everything I was selling was on the photos.

The buyers username indicates they are a Company / Toy Seller so probably wanted it cheap to sell on.

If I have to refund I'll have no choice to find the money but at the minute I have nothing in my PayPal or Bank.

Maybe this is hindering me refunding as if I had 100s £30 wouldn't be worth the hassle.

Do I reply and tell them I don't have the money yet or wait until I do.

Would you refund it all or £10 for the cable?

Thanks.

Tell him you will purchase cable as soon as possible and send on to him when you have the cash? Or just send direct from amazon? X

I can imagine they might have placed the bid and then not come back to it until after it was won. If it wasn't explicit in the original advert that the adapter was missing, I do think they have a point. You could offer them £10 for the adapter and see what they say but they might not want the hassle of sourcing this separately, so if they want a full refund ultimately I think they'd be entitled to it. They need to return the item to you first so that might give you some breathing space.

Thanks all.

Do I pay for the postage?

I'm so mad at myself as I thought I'd done all I could to avoid this.

I've had this before and as I didn't look closely at the photos I've had to suck it up.

Obviously if I'd known I could have stayed this in the description.

I couldn't cancel and re list as I already had a bid when I realised.

eBay is totally geared towards the buyer even though they make their money off sellers. I am not selling anything on it any more as there are too many total tossers. I sold a 100% silk dress and forgot to out in a minimum bid so it sold for £4 and the buyer requested a refund because there were some stains i didn't see. I had to refund the the postage as well and it was one of my favourite dresses. Fuck that for a laugh.

If I bought a gaming system that didn’t specify when I bid on it that it was missing its plug, I would assume it had it with it.

I wouldn’t be impressed buying a console and then having to pay almost the same in having to buy a plug.

Let them send it back, then refund the entire money, plus the new postage on top

Pelleas · 24/06/2020 12:56

It's worth a try doing what the pp said and offering to send a cable or refund £10 for one but if they don't accept that you would normally pay postage for a not as described return.

ChateauMargaux · 24/06/2020 12:59

Send the cable and adapter.. then at least you won't have lost out completely.

I was under the impression that a seller is restricted to what changes can be made after a bid has been placed? It's definitely not on [in my opinion] to change the description like that.
I would be very unhappy if I was the buyer too.
I would suggest you offer a partial refund so they can buy the missing item?
