it was posted signed for...

turns out the persons paypal adress wasn't their current adress - they had emailed me their new one but i hadnt read that email before posting.

So the parcels gone to her old adress.

I assumed the person wouldnt sign for it as its not in their name -- but ive tracked it and they have!! its been signed for at the old adress.

Now what do I do??

Id ring them - but cant find their phone number even tho i have the full adress i seem to need a surname too - havent a clue.

And in regards to the woman i sold it to -- where do I stand?? I sent the item to the adress on her paypal account and its arrived there ...

is it my fault? or hers?

Surely it is their mistake? They should have kept their Paypal account up to date and even so should have emailed you urgently as soon as they had bought the goods. You can't know if people have moved house - how ridiculous.

Hulababy · 19/09/2007 11:17

I would say her fault. I assume she paid by PayPal so IMO it is fair to assume that the address shown on the paypal account is the correct address. It is down to her to have that kept up to date.

Have you contacted the buyer? Can they not contact their old address to chase it?

What has the courier said re, giving it to the person with the worng name?

kitsandbits · 19/09/2007 11:17

I think she did email me quite soon after - but i had LOADS to post and just wrote out the adresses from the paypal accounts - instead of trawling through emails iykwim!I didnt even realise she had emailed - ive only just found out now after she has said she hasnt recieved it yet.

Can you get their name from the signature they signed? Will the delivery company tell you that?

Piffle · 19/09/2007 11:25

I did this to a mumsnetter a while back
I use online postage and it uses paypals address
She enver told me it was out of date

I emailed and told her what had happened
she tried to trace it from her old house
so you need to let her know

kitsandbits · 19/09/2007 11:26

She knows

I rang royalmail and they told me the signed for name

so im going to try and find the phonenumber x

kitsandbits · 19/09/2007 11:27

I think it is her problem. You sent it to the address via paypal, she choose that form of payment. She must have know the deatils were out of date otherwise why would she email her new postal address. Sounds fishy, but then I don't trust anyone!

You did your part. Let her chase it. Think of the time she is making you waste on this. You could be on MN FFS!

WotZyefilthyblaggards · 19/09/2007 11:32

whats her feedback like? how many transactions?

Is she selling or buying or both?

kitsandbits · 19/09/2007 11:33

no shes got a good record- genuine mistake i think

Post office cant do anything - she'll just have to go pick it up if she can.

I bought a load of stuff from mothercare once, paid through paypal, had just moved, it went to my old address, they signed for it, I went and knocked on the door, they said they had not recieved anything, grrrrrrr

kitsandbits · 19/09/2007 11:37

Looking back at my emailsi did actully reply to the email she sent telling me about her new adress ... but i had 15 items to post and so the next day I just got on with posting them with the PP details.

OP posts:
kitsandbits · 19/09/2007 11:39

TE troyalmail actully just told me to call the police

as the person signed for it fradulently - and kept it so its theft!!

Not sure I want to do that!

OP posts:
totaleclipse · 19/09/2007 11:39

sorry I did'nt pay through paypal, my old address was still on my mothercare account, it was £50 worth of stuff for dts, mothercare could'nt do anything, so I lost everything.

totaleclipse · 19/09/2007 11:40

really, widh I had know that then, it was stuff I desperately needed, and could'nt afford again.

sixlostmonkeys · 19/09/2007 11:41

In order to be covered you have to send to the address on paypal - even if she does send you an email.
If she tries to claim you simply send the tracking number to paypal which will confirm that the item was delivered safely to the address given on paypal.

This is her mistake in not keeping her details up to date - and up to her to tack down the parcel.

worth noting my previous thread regarding paypal addresses though

WotZyefilthyblaggards · 19/09/2007 11:42

Royalmail told you to call the police. Well..maybe you should at least the buyer will know you are telling the truth about sending it. Get a tracking number from them.

SlightlyMadSweden · 19/09/2007 11:44

Agree with 6 lost monkeys.

Surely teh buyer will know her old number? Isn't a phone number usually based on the house not the name or has it changed now?

kitsandbits · 19/09/2007 11:45

Ive got a tracking number - which i will give to the buyer

then she puts itin at royalmail and it shows its been delivered to her old adress

so she can see im not fibbing/

thankgod for that at least

i send EVERYTHING signed for now... too risky not to.

OP posts:
totaleclipse · 19/09/2007 11:46

you can take your phone number with you, I think most people do that now.

kitsandbits · 19/09/2007 11:48

We still have the same number from the oldman who diedhere - people cinstanly ring asking for keith.

its been almost 2 years - surely they must all know hes goneby now!!

OP posts:
sixlostmonkeys · 19/09/2007 11:50

If I ever get get messages asking me to send to alternative address I simply reply that I have to send to the address given on paypal. It's up to them if they want to change the address on paypal or not - BUT i will never send to another address.

You are covered. You have the tracking number.

all this said - it's not going to apply much at the moment with paypal/ebay getting the addresses mixed up.

kitsandbits · 19/09/2007 11:56

good point monkeys

i think if she raises a claim im ok as

a - i sent it to the adress registered to her paypal

b - its arrived at that adress regardless of who has signed for it

c - i have proof i posted it and it arrived at theadress supplied.
