Well I’ve NEVER had this before - what do I do?!

Bought a large-ish item of nappies. Auction ended around 8.30pm.

At 10.30pm the seller messaged to say the Post Office can’t send the package in its current state because it’s too big and the service needed isn’t currently running.

She is asking if I mind her splitting the bag and her sending it as 2 smaller packages at her expense.

Alarm bells are ringing:-

I have no protection for the second pack if it gets lost?

In effect I’m not receiving what was advertised - one big bag of 48 nappies

How does the seller know at selling at 8.30pm that the method of courier isn’t now available but this wasn’t amended in the listing beforehand?

What do I do/say?

Tell seller you’d be happy to receive the nappies via courier and send him/her links to DPD and/or Hermes Smile

Sounds very odd and a lot of hassle. Only way would be for her to explicitly say in an eBay message that it’ll be sent in 2 parcels and send you 2 tracking numbers

Kind of related, but amazon have good deals on nappies

She can send with Hermes via a parcel shop.
If not, as a buyer if you only get one parcel you can ask for a partial refund anyways, so I'd go with whatever she offers as you will not miss out even if part of the order does not come.

The Post Office absolutely can send large parcels, they will get shipped with Parcelforce. With the current circumstances I am not sure whether the normal guaranteed delivery times will be maintained, but they will get through.

We received a massive box which weighed 22kg containing a printer this week via Parcel force 48 (bought off eBay) so Royal Mail are still accepting large items.
This sounds a bit odd to me too..

I also sent a large parcel to my son containing nappies and baby milk as he was struggling to get any where he lives (rural ) . It cost £16 but it did get there . Maybe shes sold half the nappies to someone else?

Jellycatfox · 03/04/2020 14:03

Because it is half the price to split in two, that is why seller wants to.
This happened to me. For some ridiculous reason, sending 1 package was £12 but splitting it is two was around £6

Callingyounique · 03/04/2020 14:10

Yes I agree she is saying at her expense but likely she will save money by sending 2 smaller parcels

GinnyStrupac · 04/04/2020 16:56

I would ask for it to be sent intact or cancel the order for a full refund. I would not be comfortable to have a bag of nappies that has been opened and handled by a stranger at the moment.
