Item received with bits of food?!

I bought a sheepskin buggy liner from ebay and it's turned up with bits of toddler food attached!! I've checked the listing and it didn't say the seller was gonna wash it but... Should I email seller to complain or should I pick the food off (it's a cereal based snack) and wash it and stop being so ungrateful?!

it's always buyer beware, isnt' it?
I bought some things off here from another mntter and they were rank....I chucked a lot of them out and had to put the others in the diswasher to get rid of the smell, mold and dirt

redclover79 · 31/08/2007 12:36

eurgh!! I suppose I'm lucky there's nothing living in there! Sorry to hear about your mn purchases, I've been really lucky with things bought from mn, got some lovely bargains! Did you put it on the mn buying and selling thread? I've never had a problem with ebay stuff either really... Maybe it's just me, I never send things out in a state, I even iron stuff before sending (and I'm a lazy mare who irons only when necessary )...

If it was a bargain I would wash it off. You could always dab that secion with some milton fluid or similar to make sure its definitely clearn.

I would definately give them bad feedback though.

ScoobyDooooo · 31/08/2007 12:44

Eww how horrible, i would email the seller & see what they have to say about it, if this is how she intemded to sell it should should have stated this in the listing.

hana · 31/08/2007 12:45

i didn't bother, life is too short. and they did come up clean, the ones I washed. but still....

RGPargy · 31/08/2007 12:47

How rank!

callmeovercautious · 31/08/2007 12:50

Yuck - I would email her and state your displeasure!

A friend gives me loads of things which is great but they are always filthy and have to be scrubbed. I would never give something that needs cleaning!

pipsqueeke · 31/08/2007 12:51

seesm to be more and more this is happening on ebay I got a car station set thingy for my DS on there and it had crayon all over it - not meniotned in the listings. was rather annoyed. (and it wasn't a real bargin either)

would email the seller and say you feel the extras should have been incl in the lisitng!

FLIER · 31/08/2007 12:53

send them a message and also leave feedback

redclover79 · 31/08/2007 14:38

thanks everyone, think I will email the seller and moan, and will definitely leave negative feedback! btw, does anyone know if I should lanolise after washing?!

wheresthehamster · 31/08/2007 14:46

Unless it said excellent condition or similar why would you neg?

redclover79 · 31/08/2007 14:59

wheresthehamster, i would neg because this is not about the item not being in excellent condition, it is in used condition which is fine!! I'm just grumpy because I did not ask for the extras I received, usually when I get something free chucked in by an ebayer it has some use!! I suppose I would liken it to buying secondhand baby clothes, you wouldn't expect them to turn up still covered in baby sick!

OP posts:
wheresthehamster · 31/08/2007 15:08

No, you wouldn't EXPECT it, I agree but at the same time if it doesn't say washed, ironed etc....

You and I have the same standards as probably 99% of ebayer sellers of used goods in that we wouldn't dream of passing anything on that wasn't clean but others obviously don't feel that. I'd email her and mention it but I still think negging is a bit harsh because the goods were not sold with a false description.

(Don't know why I'm feeling magnanimous today )

redclover79 · 31/08/2007 15:14

wheresthehamster - I'm inclined to agree with your point, but shouldn't I leave negative (or at least neutral) feedback so that other buyers are aware?
I think I'll email the seller, see how she responds and then decide on feedback!

OP posts:
pipsqueeke · 31/08/2007 15:18

leave the FB for a minute. I jsut said thanks on mine (but the ohter stuff had been v v good, posting etc had been brilliant) so I left a pos. as the overall exp was good. maybe just a neutral if you don't come to any satisfactory conclusion?

wheresthehamster · 31/08/2007 15:21

Neutral sounds good.
And you'll feel better

Also you don't want a retaliatory neg over something like this

sixlostmonkeys · 31/08/2007 16:53

give her chance to resolve the issue before you leave feedback.

neutrals are pretty wishy washy, and don't warn others as much as the neg AND a neut will still attract a retaliatory NEG

flightattendant · 31/08/2007 17:00

Oh gosh. The seller probably didn't even realise...email her on that tack, I'm sorry, sure you didn't notice but it isn't very clean, kinda thing...then judge your feedback based on her response. If she's horribly embarrassed she might offer a part refund like free postage etc, then you'll feel better and can leave a positive. The things I've sold and not noticed, I'd never be deliberately negligent though. Most people will apologise.

redclover79 · 31/08/2007 17:38

Well I've contacted the seller, so I will wait and see... I've looked through her other feedback and she's not got any negatives but does have a couple of neutrals?

ScottishMummy · 14/10/2007 17:25

eugggh manky i would not sell something in a condition i would not be happy to receive.

LEMONADEGIRL · 14/10/2007 17:34

I bought a playmat on ebay to leave at the grandparents house months ago. It arrived with baby sick on it and smelt fusty - I was appalled and posted about here. Stuck in the wash straight away. As had only paid a small amount did not complain but will be reluctant to buy in future.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 15/10/2007 11:49

To be honest whenever I buy something off ebay I wash it before its used even if it looks/smells clean.

But then when I sell stuff I always wash and iron before posting.

LazyLinePUMPKINJane · 15/10/2007 11:53

With leaving a negative feedback, you should always wait a few days to calm down to make sure that you aren't leaving it in anger. A ranty feedback is not going to do any good as when people read it, they will just think that you are a loon.

The first thing you should do is email the seller and see what they say.

Lazarou · 15/10/2007 14:23

I have bought a couple of things off ebay that weren't up to scratch or as described. I sent the seller a pleasant email saying that unfortunately they weren't right and that I would send them back that day if they refunded me. One lady was very difficult to get hold of and so I contacted customer services. They provided me with her phone number so I sent another email a few days later saying that if I hadn't heard from her by that evening then I would call her. She responded straight away and refunded me. She also left me good feedback and I returned the favour. I haven't left any bad feedback for anyone because usually the buyer or seller will respond, given a gentle nudge.

nappyaddict · 15/10/2007 14:36

i got one of those wooden activity cubes off ebay. it said it was brand new so i thought i was getting a bargain as it only cost £15. when it arrived there was crayon and scratches on it. i emailed and he said his toddler must have done it when he took it out the box to photograph. ok that i could maybe understand but what about the scratches? i was quite reasonable and said i would have it if he refunded me £5 but he wouldn't. i couldn't be bothered to argue in the end so just kept it.
