Why would seller say they’d paid more that I received

Recently sold something for the unexpectedly low price of 99p via global shipping. Postage 3 pounds. Not happy but i sucked it up.
Received 3.99 into PayPal but 3.55 after fees. In other words once eBay fees taken it really had cost me money in wrapping and petrol.

Anyway got a really rude email today saying the buyer had paid 11.31 for shipping and as I only paid 3 pounds they wanted difference back and were opening a case. This was not said in a polite way . Actually I was taken aback.

They ignored my reply and opened the case. I filled in the case info on PayPal and they said they were offering a refund to the buyer!! The item is delivered.

So what has happened here. I certainly have not received the money they said they paid. Their communication is ridiculously rude. Annoyingly I already gave good feedback after payment received. How is it possible they ended up paying much more? I have had disputes before but only one other very rude encounter.

Incidentally this buyer has about 2800 transactions.

Any ideas what has happened and can I do anything?

Got the wrong person ? Send them a very polite email.

Marmite27 · 22/01/2020 17:55

It’s a scam. You send them the money back and they raise a case saying not received.

They get your item, the refund and the ‘extra’ you sent.

Beware!

That's crazy that eBay are refunding them money they haven't spent. Stories like this make me wary of selling on ebay.

CondeNasty · 22/01/2020 18:11

Is global shipping where you send the parcel to the ebay shipping centre and they send on to the buyer? Who did you post it to and where is the buyer based?

PayPal cant refund money you haven't received! 1

I believe if it's via Global Shipping then Ebay charge postage on top of the amount you charge.

Answer the Paypal dispute factually and point out that you only received £3.99 and not the amount the buyer is claiming. If they have already found against you then open an appeal. They may have funded the refund though so check your account.

If the original rude messages were in EBay, then use the Report a Buyer option.

If it’s global shipping you receive the funds to send the item to the eBay UK based distribution centre then eBay charge the buyer for the onwards shipping. Explain this to the buyer and advise they take it up with eBay.

I wonder if they had to pay duty tax? If I get a parcel from some areas in America, I have to pay a 'levy' to the PO when I collect it. Do you think this could have happened here?

Happygirl79 · 22/01/2020 18:52

I think they meant to send the message to another seller?

Callingyounique · 22/01/2020 19:24

Ah interesting.
Yes with global shipping you post it to Staffordshire and they forward on. I didn’t realise that eBay charged extra for onwards shipping tbh. I have not had anyone query it previously and you’d think someone with a 2800 rating would be aware.

The refund would be for the 3.99. Tbh this isn’t as much about the money but I object to being ‘spoken’ to in such a rude manor when I am not in the wrong. I will not be using global shipping in future. I guess it could be a scam . Problem is eBay always take the buyers side.

Ebay won't side with them.
You are right - dont refund

They paid £3 to get it to the global shipping facility. The additional charge was to get it from there to them. Send them a link explaining global shipping. Which country are they in?
