I have bought stuff on ebay before. Now have some stuff to sell. But am a bit confused as to how they charge sellers. Can anyone explain please?

They tell you what the fees are when you list and they send you an invoice at the end of the month.

There is a "listing fee" to list something, although I think they've done away with these for the first so many items per month for private sellers, and then a "final value fee" - a percentage of the final selling fee.

If you can find your way around the help pages, you will eventually find

sellercentre.ebay.co.uk/private/fees

I usually list for free - I estimate that final value fees plus PayPal fees come to around 20% so factor that in when deciding whether worth selling elsewhere and when setting your starting price

Thanks @JaceLancs
The fees definitely render some stuff not worth selling 🙄

Remember that they charge fees on postage as well. I think it's just over 10% now, plus Paypal fees.

Usually you can find a way to list for free.
If you sign up for newsletters, you may get offers to sell where the fee is capped at only £1 or £2.
Buy it Now sells faster than Auctions, use advanced search to see what prices similar items sold for previously.
Ebay takes 10% of sale price & postage, paypal takes 3.5% + 20pence.

Right Now is the best time of year to sell most things, especially items suitable to be gifts.

I literally can't understand how eBay can defend taking 10% of the postage cost; it's an actual cost that the seller has incurred.
