Item not as described- postage

Any thoughts on this?

Bought an item that was described as a certain colour. When it arrived it was so dark it was clearly not the colour described.

I have spoken to the seller and whilst they have agreed to refund they say they won't pay postage.

I think this is a bit cheeky as it's not that I've changed my mind, it's not the colour they said. Its not an expensive item but that's not really the point.

Should they refund postage?

show us the difference in colours....

If you open a case for SND they will have to pay postage. So ebay sides with you.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 07/11/2019 08:40

Need to see the difference really. I've been on the sellers end of this one. Colours can be tricky to judge from screens.

OneInEight · 07/11/2019 08:59

Open up a not as described case. It is up to the seller to make sure their photographs are representative of the colour - sometimes things are tricky to photograph with accurate colours especially if taken under artificial light but in this case there should be a clear note in the listing. Although in all honesty as a seller I would try and offer a partial refund with the buyer keeping the item to try and resolve the issue.

amylou8 · 07/11/2019 09:09

Depends on how different the colour is. If they said red and it's blue open a not as described, you'll get your postage paid. If looked maroon in the pics but you believe it's burgundy then really that's the risk you run buying online. You can return it under distance seller regs for this reason, but postage should fall to you.

I will photograph when I get home as it's there. They described it as royal blue. It's almost purple it's so dark.

If you open Return request with eBay on the basis that the item not as described, then the seller has to issue a pre paid returns label.

If you return an item ALWAYS go through eBay (the proper channels), whether it is a non fault return or a not as described.

If there are issues further down the line eBay won’t support you unless you’ve involved them throughout the whole process.

19lottie82 · 07/11/2019 16:19

amylou8 that’s not the case with eBay transactions.

Thursdaysissue · 07/11/2019 21:14

It was described as royal blue and this was the picture. Personally I consider royal blue to be lighter but 🤷🏼‍♀️

This is what I got. I've tried to do it in bright light to make it more like the sellers photo. In real life it's almost purple and certainly navy. The reason I'm being specific is it's to match a gymnastics costume.

It doesnt look that much different in colour if I'm honest

Thursdaysissue · 07/11/2019 21:40

Would you call that royal blue? 🤔

OP posts:
NoParticularPattern · 07/11/2019 21:42

I wouldn’t call either of them royal blue but it is pretty close to the colour of the photo which was on the listing. I’d have described it as navy in the first place though even with that photo.

Solihooley · 07/11/2019 21:44

Are you serious? That’s royal blue. Royal blue is a fairly dark blue. And I don’t think it looks any different other than the eBay pic is in bright light.

ColdRainAgain · 07/11/2019 22:03

The sellers picture is royal blue in my terminology.
Your lighter picture is similar in colour.
Your darker picture is closer to a navy.

For a scrunchie, I think I'd just leave feedback that it was a big darker than expected.

lljkk · 07/11/2019 22:04

I consider royal blue to be lighter too, like these pics, but omg, how much did you pay for a scrunchie? I'm minded to think you're being very petty if you paid as little as I suspect.

Owlsintowels · 07/11/2019 22:09

You've had some odd replies OP. The scrunchie in their photo is a different one from the one you received. Their photo is dark with tones of royal blue, exactly as they say. However the one you photographed is navy. Definitely different.
You're entitled to a refund of your postage. It might seem petty to some, but its the law, and why should you pay a pound or two for your mistake? Perhaps those who think a pound or two isn't a big deal could send me that amount into my PayPal, might be handy to gather up that amount from every MNer! I promise to donate it to a charity which helps people at Christmas rather than spend it on scrunchies for myself.

Owlsintowels · 07/11/2019 22:10

why should you pay for their* mistake

Thursdaysissue · 07/11/2019 22:34

I get it isn't the most amount of money and I understand those that say I'm being petty, however if everyone just accepted it cause it cost a few quid then overall the seller is quids in.

Photos can be deceiving. Clearly and with hindsight the sellers photo was in really bright light. Maybe I didn't take that into account but to me royal blue is lighter than this. The gymnastics costume was described as royal blue and this comes from a well known company.

This is so dark it's navy at best and almost purple.

Anyway thanks for your replies. I'll have a think whether I should be "petty" or not. Grin

Owl

I'm on the same train of thought as you. Seller also made comment that the post would only be 83p. Well if that's the case you pay it Grin

Owlsintowels · 07/11/2019 22:54

I always think that when people say 'it's only £x', I want to reply 'well if it's such an insignificant amount, you pay me it!'

mamapants · 09/11/2019 18:03

I think you are being ridiculous. When you are trying to get something to match something else its always a bit of a gamble. The seller probably made about 30p from the sale after fees and postage, they are not quids in.

Mwahahahaaaa · 11/11/2019 12:39

I would say they are definitely not the same colour. The sellers photo looks edited to me to make the colour seem more vibrant.

Bouldghirl · 12/11/2019 09:30

I’ve been on the other side of this twice on EBay. Blues are notoriously difficult to photograph under home conditions. Both times I was selling excess yarn as part of a decluttering exercise. I usually needed 2-3 attempts at photographing the blue yarns to get a colour match that I though was acceptable. Twice I had buyers say the colour was not as they expected. If you sell on EBay that’s something you just have to accept. You issue the postage label and refund. EBay rules are quite clear on this. It’s the sellers responsibility. You should open a not as described case on EBay and let them deal with it. Make sure you only message the seller through EBay.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 12/11/2019 09:53

Royal blue is different from navy blue, that's why they are differently named.

The advertised scrunchy is royal blue, the one you received looks navy. It may seem petty to some but you are within your rights to ask for a refund for something not as described.

Do it all through EBAY.
