Buyer wants to return purchase - need advice how to handle

Hi everyone,

I sold a dress about 3 weeks ago, no returns policy.

The buyer, obviously a chancer, wants to return with the very dubious claim that it doesn’t fit and that “The dress must have shank it the wash it does not fit”.

Clearly she’s washed it and did whatever or worn it and doesn’t like it. She got it for a bargain price anyway.

So, how do I handle and tell her to basically eff off but without losing the dress and the pittance I got for it in the end?

This happened to me too. I had a no returns policy and the buyer wanted to return it because it didn't fit. I got eBay involved and they said the size was clearly stated on my ad plus the no returns so they closed the case in my favour.

Preggosaurus9 · 26/08/2019 10:10

Did she raise a claim via ebay or is she just messaging you personally?

Stevie77 · 26/08/2019 10:13

She raised the claim via eBay.

@Bokky how do I go about getting eBay involved? I know they can side with the buyer so don’t want to take the wrong steps.

I just live messaged or phoned them from memory and said that she's raised a case because it's the wrong size but my ad stayed no returns and it's not my fault the dress doesn't fit when there are pictures clearly showing the size of the item, plus also listed in the title and the ad text.

Unfortunately you don’t have a choice here. eBay will force the return and leave a defect on your account if you don’t accept the return.

Accept the return, refund the buyer. Block them, and relist.

Stevie77 · 26/08/2019 20:43

But she’s clearly damaged the dress so I won’t be able to relist. I’m on holiday so will call eBay when I’m back and see what they say.

Honestly, I thought I’d try and sell a couple of good quality, branded items but it’s not worth the hassle for getting £2.60 minus fees. I’d rather give my things to charity or a women’s shelter from now on.

This is why I no longer sell on Ebay.

Preggosaurus9 · 27/08/2019 02:53

No don't accept the return! Call ebay. The number is hard to find but does exist!

Preggosaurus9 · 27/08/2019 02:55

Cheeky fuckers and scammers is just par for the course unfortunately.

I had a buyer complain that the black coat I'd sold her was not black but a very dark blue. The coat was black. Pictures clearly showed it was black. Utterly bizarre attempt to get a refund. Case closed in my favour. Cheeky fucker!

I’m on holiday so will call eBay when I’m
back

Remember you only have a week to respond to a return request otherwise it will be closed out in the buyers favour.

Stevie77 · 29/08/2019 18:54

Well, eBay advised (verbally, over the phone) that this is outside my returns policy, of no returns accepted, and therefore I don’t have to accept it and it won’t count against me. So I’ve declined and will see what happens next...
